WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (April 14, 2017) – Despite another strong start on the mound from Max Beatty, Winston-Salem could not provide enough offense to bring home the victory, falling 4-3 against Buies Creek at BB&T Ballpark on Friday evening.

Beatty turned in another solid outing, surrendering just three runs over five innings in a no-decision. After Beatty tossed two scoreless innings, Jason Martin broke the scoreless tie in the third with a homer that just snuck over the short porch in right field.

Buies Creek (7-2) was quick to add to that in the following inning as Anthony Hermelyn and Pat Porter started with back-to-back singles. After a failed sacrifice bunt, Beatty made a poor throw to second on a pickoff attempt and allowed both runners to advance before Martin singled them in to make it 3-0.

Winston-Salem (2-7) answered in the home half as Brady Conlan led off the inning with a double before Aaron Schnurbusch roped an RBI triple to right-center field. Schnurbusch promptly scored on a Toby Thomas sacrifice fly to bring the Dash within a run.

Winston tied it in the fifth as a Conlan single drove home Jake Fincher, who had walked to start the frame. However, Johnny Sewald struck with two down in the top of the sixth, putting one over the right-center field wall against reliever Aaron Bummer (0-2) for the go-ahead run.

Bummer was solid in two innings of relief, allowing just that home run while punching out four. Ian Hamilton contributed two scoreless frames in his third relief outing of the season.

New Astros hurler Ryan Deemes (1-0) picked up the victory in two-thirds of an inning of work, while Franklin Perez spun four perfect innings to pick up his first save of the season. In 9.1 innings against the Dash, Perez, the sixth-best prospect in the Astros system per MLB Pipeline, has only permitted one hit.

Winston-Salem will vie for at least a series split tomorrow against Buies Creek in game three of the four-game set at BB&T Ballpark. Dash righty Aron McRee (0-0, 0.00 ERA) will take the ball against Astros right-hander Yoanys Quiala (1-0, 0.00 ERA).
