WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (June 19, 2021) — The Winston-Salem Dash defeated the Greensboro Grasshoppers 4-2, taking an early lead and banking on solid starting pitching.

Jeremiah Burke took the hill for Winston-Salem and spun a gem, lasting five innings while allowing only one hit, no runs or walks, and two strikeouts.

Greensboro starter Carmen Mlodzinski had his day spoiled early when Alex Destino cranked his seventh home run of the season—a two-run opposite field homer—to give the Dash a first inning 2-0 edge.

The Dash plated another in the third as Winston-Salem newcomer and high-ranking prospect Yoelqui Céspedes touched home on an RBI double by Lenyn Sosa.

The fourth inning brought in another run as Evan Skoug smacked a double near the right-center field wall to bring home Travis Moniot and push the Dash to a 4-0 lead.

Wilber Pérezentered in relief in the sixth, and after retiring the ‘Hoppers in order in the sixth, ran into trouble in the seventh. Liover Peguero doubled and scored on a sacrifice fly to center off the bat of Aaron Shackelford. After retiring one more, Pérez gave up a solo homer to Fabricio Macias, who put the Hoppers within striking distance at 4-2.

Dash relievers allowed no more runs from Greensboro and secured a 4-2 victory. Jeremiah Burke (1-1) penned a win, while Brian Glowicki earned his second save on the year. Carmen Mlodzinski (1-2) suffered his second loss of the season.
