Potomac 13, Winston-Salem 6

W: Erick Fedde (2-3)
L: Brandon Brennan (0-3)
S: Mario Sanchez (1)

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (May 15, 2016) – Despite a strong day at the plate for Hunter Jones and Gerson Montilla, Potomac earned a 13-6 victory behind 16 hits on Sunday afternoon at BB&T Ballpark.
Jones finished the contest 3-for-4 and has now posted consecutive three-hit performances. Montilla, who was 2-for-5 with a homer and four RBIs, is now 6-for-12 on the homestand. He paces the Dash with 25 RBIs for the season.
Potomac (18-16) began their game-long offensive attack in the second against Dash starter Brandon Brennan (0-3). With a runner on first and one out, Alec Keller bounced an RBI double down the right field line to make it 1-0. The next batter, Khayyan Norfork, stroked an RBI single to right field to put the P-Nats up two.
The Dash (14-23) would take the lead in the third, albeit briefly. Montilla rocked a three-run home run to right-center field off P-Nats starter Erick Fedde (2-3), giving the Dash a 3-2 edge.
However, Potomac regained the lead quickly in the fourth and never looked back. With runners on first and second and nobody out, Dale Carey drove in Alec Keller on an RBI single to draw even at three. After Andrew Stevenson singled to load the bases, Osvaldo Abreu gave the Nationals the lead for good with an RBI single to left to make it 4-3.
A passed ball by catcher Sean O’Connell put the P-Nats up two, and, following a walk to load the bases, right-hander Kelvis Valerio relieved Brennan. The Nationals plated all three of those inherited runners to go up 8-3, all of which were charged to Brennan. In total, he allowed eight earned runs and nine hits in three innings.
After Potomac took a 9-3 lead on an RBI double by Jose Marmelejos in the fifth, the Dash tried to mount a comeback in the bottom of the inning. With runners at the corners and no outs, Montilla swatted an RBI single to right to make it 9-4.
Winston-Salem would load the bases with no outs, but Marcus Davis grounded into a double play that proved to be the final scoring play of the inning. Fedde finished the contest giving up seven hits and five runs in five innings.
The Nationals added another score against Valerio in the sixth and three in the seventh that were charged to righty Danny Dopico.
Potomac reliever Mario Sanchez pitched the last four innings for the Nationals, picking up the save and allowing only one run.
Dash second baseman Toby Thomas extended his hitting streak to eight games with a double in the eighth inning. Eight out of the nine starters in Winston-Salem’s lineup recorded a hit.
The Dash round out the homestand with an 11 a.m. Education Day contest against the Nationals. Winston-Salem sends Matt Cooper (2-2, 3.29 ERA) to the bump against fellow right-hander Boone Whiting (3-1, 4.11 ERA).
