MYRTLE BEACH, S.C (May 18, 2016) – After an offensive outburst in Wednesday’s doubleheader opener, Myrtle Beach stifled Winston-Salem’s bats in game two en route to a 2-0 win at TicketReturn.Com Field.

The Pelicans struck in the first on a Dash miscue with runners on the first and third and one out. Dash starter Andre Wheeler (2-1) struck out Yasiel Balaguert swinging, but a throw by Sean O’Connell on a steal attempt by Ian Happ sailed wide into center field, allowing Rashad Crawford to score.

In the following frame, Pelicans shortstop Daniel Lockhart smashed a solo shot to right center to put the Pelicans up 2-0.

Wheeler, who started his first game since August 19, 2015, went three innings and struck out three in the losing effort.

For the second time in the last week, Myrtle Beach right-hander Trevor Clifton (2-3) dazzled against Winston-Salem. The 20-year-old threw five and a third innings, allowing only three hits and one walk. In 11.1 innings against Winston-Salem this year, Clifton has yet to allow a run and has collected 17 strikeouts.

The Dash threatened after Clifton departed with one on and one out in the sixth. Reliever Jose Rosario allowed a single to Hunter Jones, putting runners on the corners. After Jones stole second, Rosario locked in and struck out Gerson Montilla and Keon Barnum to end the threat. Rosario secured his fourth save of the season with a scoreless seventh.

While held scoreless on offense, Winston-Salem received some solid work from their bullpen. Danny Dopico worked two scoreless frames, and Jacob Morris extended his scoreless streak to begin the season to 14.2 frames with a perfect sixth inning.

The Dash will complete their three-game set against the Pelicans on Thursday at 7:05 p.m. Winston-Salem sends right-hander Jordan Stephens (0-4, 5.06 ERA) to the mound against Myrtle Beach righty Erick Leal (4-2, 3.94 ERA). The Pregame Dash begins at 6:50 p.m. on 600 AM-WSJS, wsjs.com and the TuneIn Radio App.
