NHL: Canes Start Regular Season With Three Wins in One Week

aidanjensen.nc@gmail.com

After a rough preseason with just one victory, the Carolina Hurricanes are starting their regular season on a strong, winning note.

The Canes currently sit at 3-0 heading into the second game of their 3-game road trip. Carolina dominated the New Jersey Devils on Opening Night, 6-3. Two days later, the Canes squeaked by the Philadelphia Flyers in overtime, 4-3. To kick off its annual NC State Fair road trip, Carolina smacked the San Jose Sharks, 5-1, on Tuesday in California.

We’re just three games into the Canes’ season, but they’re showing early signs of a deeper, more talented team.

Seth Jarvis leads Carolina with three goals, while he, Taylor Hall, Shayne Gostisbehere and Sebastian Aho all are tied for the team lead with four points.

Freddie Andersen is between the pipes, rightfully claiming his starting goaltender spot with wins in each of his first two appearances. Andersen saved 39 of the first 45 shots he faced, recording an .867 save percentage and 2.89 goals against average.

Brandon Bussi is backing up Andersen – and looks the part of a future NHL starter. Bussi won his lone appearance in net, saving 16 of the first 17 shots he faced, while recording a .941 save percentage and 1.00 GAA.

When do the Canes play next?

Carolina stays in California for the week, traveling to Anaheim for a 10 p.m. ET matchup with the Ducks on Thursday. The Canes don’t return home until October 28, when they host the Vegas Golden Knights.
