As we roll into November, the Carolina Hurricanes are hoping to re-generate momentum they found during their 5-0 start.
The Canes recently found the win column again, dismantling the New York Islanders in a 6-2 victory Thursday night, but lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the Boston Bruins Saturday night.
Carolina (7-4) and Boston (7-7) failed to score during the first two periods, then Boston added two quick third-period goals, thanks to Casey Mittelstadt and Viktor Arvidsson.
The Canes didn’t go away quietly, though, as defenseman Alexander Nikishin scored his second goal of the year. With just under three minutes remaining, Nikishin wound his shot up and connected with the puck, pushing it past Bruins goalie Jeremy Swayman.
Carolina didn’t get another scoring chance, though – and Boston evened its record at .500.
The Canes had no issue finding offense on Thursday, highlighted by first period goals from Bradly Nadeau, Mike Reilly and Jordan Martinook. Jackson Blake, Andrei Svechnikov and Logan Stankoven provided third period tallies. Brandon Bussi saved 26 of the 28 shots he faced in net for Carolina.
When do the Canes play next?
Carolina stays up east this coming week, facing the New York Rangers Tuesday night at 7 p.m. New York (6-5-2) and the Canes are tied in the Metropolitan Division, so this matchup will count as more than just any old game.
