WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (May 8, 2016) – Despite a Gerson Montilla home run, Winston-Salem dropped its Mother’s Day matinee 8-3 to the visiting Salem Red Sox at BB&T Ballpark.
After a scoreless first, Salem caused havoc on the bases and at the plate against Dash starter Spencer Adams (3-2). With runners on first and third and one out, Mike Meyers broke for second base.  The throw from Dash catcher Brett Austin was not in time, and Danny Mars stole home behind the play to give Salem a 1-0 edge. Two batters later, Bryan Hudson stroked an RBI single to right to put the Red Sox up two.
Salem would display their power in the next two innings. Rafael Devers smashed a solo shot to right field in the third. In the fourth, Mike Meyers led off the frame with a solo dinger to left. The Red Sox added another run in the frame to make it 5-0.
The Dash’s offense marched back in the middle innings against Salem starter Jalen Beeks (4-1). With a runner on second and two outs in the fifth, Toby Thomas blooped an RBI base hit to left to make it 5-1.
In the sixth, Montilla rocked a two-run shot to left to pull the Dash within two. The Dash third baseman is now 23-for-69 (.333) in his last 18 games. Beeks, who is now 2-0 at BB&T Ballpark this season, ended the day throwing six innings and yielding three earned runs.
Adams pitched into the seventh for Winston-Salem but would depart after giving up an RBI double to Andrew Benintendi. In total, the 20-year-old hurled six innings, giving up 10 hits and six earned runs.
The Red Sox added to their scoring in eighth with a two-run triple by Mauricio Dubon off Winston-Salem southpaw Andre Wheeler. Salem relievers Jamie Callahan and Taylor Grover combined to throw three scoreless frames for Salem to complete the win.
The Dash fall to 3-14 to begin the home slate at BB&T Ballpark and 1-7 against the Red Sox in the Triad.
After a day off on Monday, the Dash hit the road for a three-game series against Myrtle Beach, with the first contest on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. The Pregame Dash begins at 6:50 p.m., and fans can catch the game online at wsdash.com/broadcast, MiLB.tv or the TuneIn App.
The Dash return to BB&T Ballpark for a four-game series from May 13-16. The fun begins with a Fireworks Friday, presented by Goodwill of Northwest North Carolina. For your tickets, call the Dash at (336) 714-2287 or visit wsdash.com.
