WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (July 9, 2017) – Behind a stellar performance from Trey Supak, the Carolina Mudcats held the Dash to just two hits in an 8-0 shutout victory on Sunday afternoon at BB&T Ballpark.

Supak (2-3) hurled a career-high eight frames while surrendering just two hits and one walk over 93 pitches (58 for strikes). The Bryan, Texas, native set down 19 of the final 20 Winston-Salem (8-10, 32-56) batters he faced in his outing, with the lone runner coming on a Daniel Gonzalez sharply-struck single to center field in the eighth.

Wuilder Rodriguez spun a perfect ninth to hand the Dash their 11th shutout loss of the season, with six coming at BB&T Ballpark.

For the third straight contest, the Mudcats (9-9, 45-41) dented the scoreboard in their first offensive frame. With one out in the first, Troy Stokes, Jr., drove a 3-2 pitch from southpaw Bernardo Flores (0-2) midway up the Nature’s Select Knoll to give Carolina a 1-0 lead.

In the third, Stokes, Jr., jump-started the offense again as he walked with one out in the inning, and Lucas Erceg smoked a single to left-center that put runners at first and second. Jake Gatewood followed with an RBI double into the left field corner that scored Stokes, Jr., with Erceg crossing the plate on a fielding error by Jameson Fisher on the play.

Flores lasted 4.2 innings in his third High-A start with Winston-Salem, allowing three runs (two earned) while walking and striking out five batters each.

Carolina added five insurance runs in the late innings, tallying one in the seventh and eighth frames before tacking on three in the ninth against Victor Diaz. Stokes, Jr., collected his second and third RBIs of the game, while Brandon Diaz, Luis Aviles and Jose Cuas all picked up run-scoring knocks.

The Dash and Mudcats wrap up their four-game series on Monday at 7 p.m. at BB&T Ballpark. Jimmy Lambert (2-1, 4.96 ERA) is on the bump in the series finale for Winston-Salem, and he will oppose Carolina right-hander Cody Ponce (7-6, 3.25 ERA).
