WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (Aug. 21, 2016) – Dash first baseman Marcus Davis homered early, but a sixth-run fourth inning buoyed Salem to a dominant 12-1, sweep-clinching victory over the Dash at BB&T Ballpark on Sunday afternoon.

The Red Sox three-game sweep marks the seventh by an opponent against Winston-Salem (24-32, 52-74) this season. Also, with Sunday’s defeat, the Dash’s season-long losing streak now sits at seven games.

Winston-Salem took the edge against Salem starter Anyelo Leclerc (3-2) in the second inning. Davis smacked a one-out, solo shot to right field that put the Dash up 1-0. The 24-year-old now has seven homers this season to go along with 60 RBIs, second-most on the club.

Leclerc, otherwise, was strong for the Red Sox, allowing just three hits and one run in five innings of work.

Winston-Salem right-hander Kelvis Valerio (3-5) allowed just two hits through the first two innings, but Salem tied the ballgame in the third. After a one-out triple by Bryan Hudson, Mike Meyers stroked a sacrifice fly to center to knot the game at one.

Tied 1-1 in the fourth, Salem (35-21, 78-47) quickly put the game out of reach against Valerio. With the bases loaded and nobody out, Jordan Procyshen grounded a two-run single to make it 3-1. Jordan Betts followed with an RBI single, and, after a sacrifice bunt, Hudson connected for an RBI knock to give the Red Sox a 5-1 edge. Rafael Devers knocked Valerio out of the game with a two-run single to make it 7-1.

Valerio went 3.2 innings, yielding nine hits and a career-high seven earned runs. Ryan Riga relieved the right-hander and started his outing by retiring the first seven batters he faced, before yielding five runs in the seventh inning.

Left-hander Aaron Bummer made his High-A debut on Sunday and allowed just one hit in a scoreless ninth after Taylore Cherry spun 1.2 innings and did not give up a run of his own.

After a league-wide off-day on Monday, the Dash hit the road for a three-game set against the Frederick Keys. Winston-Salem sends right-hander Robinson Leyer (1-3, 4.00 ERA) to the hill against Frederick left-hander Mitch Horacek (6-10, 4.58 ERA).
