WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (Aug. 23, 2017) – Three Mudcats pitchers held the Dash’s offense to six hits in Carolina’s 7-0 win on Wednesday night at BB&T Ballpark.
Jordan Yamamoto (7-4) spun six strong innings on the mound, yielding four hits and one walk while striking out eight, tied for his season-high. Luke Barker and Parker Berberet tossed the final three innings for the Mudcats (27-32, 63-64) and combined to give up just two hits while fanning four.
Carolina used a pair of long balls to crack the scoreboard in the second, as both Isan Diaz and Cooper Hummel homered off Dane Dunning (5-7) in the inning to give the Mudcats a 3-0 lead.
In the third, Carolina tacked on three more runs on a pair of run-producing singles. With men at second and third and two down, Luis Aviles socked a two-run single to center that scored Lucas Erceg and Hummel. Trent Clark provided the other RBI knock, driving in Aviles two batters later.
Dunning lasted just three innings, his third-shortest start since joining Winston-Salem (27-32, 51-78) on May 1. The former Florida Gator allowed six runs on nine hits and struck out five, upping his season total to 149 between the Dash and Kannapolis.
The Muddies scored their final run in the sixth against reliever Drew Hasler. Corey Ray roped a double into the left field corner to lead off the inning, and, two batters later, Erceg plated Ray with a double of his own.
Louie Lechich twirled three scoreless innings of relief for Winston-Salem, surrendering one hit and striking out three. Over his last 20 outings, the Stockton, Calif., native has allowed six earned runs in 26.2 innings (2.03 ERA).
