In a thrilling turn of events for Grimsley High School’s football program, quarterback Faizon Brandon has been crowned the top-ranked high school football player in the country for the class of 2026 by 24/7 Sports. Hailing from Greensboro, North Carolina, Brandon has garnered attention not only for his exceptional talent on the field but also for his remarkable leadership qualities.
Standing tall at 6 feet 3 inches and weighing in at 210 pounds, Brandon cuts an imposing figure on the gridiron. His physical presence is matched only by his prowess as a quarterback, where he has consistently demonstrated a rare combination of arm strength, accuracy, and field awareness.
Throughout his high school career, Brandon has amassed an impressive array of statistics, showcasing his ability to dominate games and lead his team to victory. According to data from MaxPreps, Brandon has thrown for over 5,000 yards and 50 touchdowns, solidifying his status as one of the most prolific passers in the state.
But it’s not just his stats that have earned him accolades; it’s his intangible qualities as well. Grimsley Head Coach Daryl Brown speaks highly of Brandon, noting his dedication, work ethic, and unwavering commitment to excellence both on and off the field.
“Faizon has worked extremely hard to continue to get better in all areas of his game,” says Coach Brown. “Especially the mental side. Spending time with our OC to understand concepts and what opposing defenses are trying to do. He also has become more of a vocal leader. Starting to assert himmslef more as he has become more confident.”
Brandon’s journey to the top has been marked by countless hours of hard work and dedication. From early morning practices to late-night film sessions, he has spared no effort in honing his craft and refining his skills. And now, all that hard work has paid off as he earns the prestigious title of the top-ranked player in his class.
“Faizon never shies away from being coached and trying to grow,” Brown continued. ” He is as hungry as he ever been to be the best he can be, but ultimately he wants to help his team be the best it can be.”
As news of Brandon’s latest achievement spreads throughout the community, excitement is palpable among fans and supporters of Grimsley High School football. With Brandon at the helm, the team looks poised for even greater success in the seasons to come. Last season, Brandon led the Whirlies to a 13-1 overall record, falling on the road to eventual 4A champ Weddington in the NCHSAA 4A Western Regional semifinals. The Whirlies will again be a top ranked 4A team to begin the 2024 season.
But for now, Brandon remains focused on the task at hand – leading his team to victory and continuing to push the boundaries of what is possible on the football field. With his sights set on greatness, there’s no telling what the future holds for this rising star from Greensboro, North Carolina.
