Fourth-Generation Driver Slate Myers Makes Modified History as Youngest Bowman Gray Stadium Race Winner

Jordan Atkins also takes maiden Madhouse win in Sportsman Division,

becoming sixth female race winner at Bowman Gray Stadium on Great Clips Crash Fest night

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (May 18, 2026) – History was made on multiple fronts Saturday at Bowman Gray Stadium in Great Clips Crash Fest. 17-year-old Slate Myers set a record for youngest ever winner in the Brad’s Golf Cars Modified Division, also becoming the Stadium’s first ever fourth-generation driver to reach victory lane, extending the Myers family’s winning pedigree. Jordan Atkins became the sixth female winner at Bowman Gray Stadium as well in the Law Offices of John Barrow Sportsman Division.

Kicking off the loaded schedule of action at Bowman Gray Stadium was the Q104.1 Stadium Stock Series. Their first 15-lap race saw points leader Luke Smith remain perfect to start the season. The No. 80 started second, took the lead immediately, and never looked back. Smith picked up his fourth win in as many races in 2026.

“I got a bunch of good luck and the Good Lord above for taking care of us,” Smith said. “And all these great people that help us each and every week. I got to thank the Harris family, without them this wouldn’t be possible.” Smith was closely followed at the checkers by: Chuck Wall, AJ Sanders, Levi Holt, and Brad Mickalowski.

Race two in the second split of Stadium Stock saw reigning champion Brandon Brendle lead the entire distance. The No. 43 picked up his second win of the year over Stephen and AJ Sanders, Chris Allison, and Zak Taylor. Q104.1 Stadium Stock competitors will be back in action next week with another one or two 15-lap events.

The Law Offices of John Barrow Sportsman Series almost saw two flawless runs from points leader Billy Gregg. Gregg was passed on the last lap by Zack Ore in the first race, giving driver No. 55 his 27th career win at The Madhouse.

“I know we had to co-op, I didn’t want to dump Billy there,” Ore said. “I tried to run as clean as I could. We had the fastest car, and I think the fastest car won.”

Gregg came roaring back for retribution in the second race. Gregg now holds a 40-point championship lead. “You can take it any way you want to,” Gregg said. “We’ve been giving it to them all year.”

Behind Ore and Gregg in race one were: Tommy Neal, Austin Taylor, and Bryan Sykes Jr. Race two’s top five behind Gregg were: Ore, Sterling Plemmons, Bryan Sykes Jr., and Bryan Sykes Sr. The Law Offices of John Barrow Sportsman Division will headline week six with a 100-lap race.

As has been the case multiple times before, the Brad’s Golf Cars Modified Division was a Myers family affair, but this one was extra special. Jason Myers led wire-to-wire in race one, taking his 43rd career Madhouse win and first victory in over a year.

“Redemption tonight,” Jason Myers said after being fastest in qualifying last week. “That was a hard one to swallow, having the fastest car here and getting outrun. Then I made up for it tonight, I may have had a little better car, but I was playing defense and just parking the corner on Tim [Brown] and making him hit me. I figured I was planning it safe that way, I wouldn’t bust my hind end. We came over here this morning and worked and worked and worked on this racecar that paid off.”  Behind Jason Myers and Tim Brown at the checkers were: Burt Myers, Riley Neal, and Chris Fleming.

Meanwhile in the second feature, a maiden Bowman Gray Stadium triumph came for fourth-generation competitor Slate Myers. Driver 6 became The Madhouse’s youngest ever Modified winner at 17 years, eight months, and 20 days old. The son of Burt Myers also won days ahead of graduating high school from Triad Baptist Christian Academy. To call this a very popular win would be the understatement of the week.

“Dude I’m just speechless,” Slate Myers said. “I can’t believe that just happened. Can’t thank God enough, it’s been a long way, a lot of sleepless nights thinking about this kind of stuff right here. It’s what it’s all about, we’re not done yet. Can’t thank everybody enough.” Slate Myers just beat out Daniel Beeson, Kyle Southern, Randy Butner, and John Holleman IV to the checkers. Brad’s Golf Cars Modifieds will return in week six with another Twin 25-lap races.

The five-lap Skid Race featured on Saturday saw Ronald Moser lead from green to checkers, winning by a large margin over Adam Moore.

More Madhouse history was made in the QRC HVAC & Refrigeration Street Stock race. Jordan Atkins started on pole and became the Stadium’s sixth female feature race winner after their event was called short for time after nine laps. The 28-year-old was ecstatic in victory lane after the biggest win of her career.

“I drove the wheels off of that thing,” Atkins said. “I can’t thank everyone enough, all the sponsors. Thank you God, this is awesome, thank you everybody!”

Atkins took the checkers ahead of points leader Brad Lewis, Kevin Gilbert, TJ Whaley, and Wes Glascoe. QRC HVAC & Refrigeration Street Stocks will take the green flag this Saturday in another 20-lap feature race.

The Crown Vic Outlaw Super Series made its debut at Bowman Gray Stadium, putting on a memorable show around the famed quarter mile. Fenders and feelings were both bent aplenty when the checkered flag waved over Dean Levi in the No. 19 car.

“This is so badass!” said Levi. “Thank you guys, I can’t even believe this is happening right now, this is so awesome. I’m sure the 26 [Michael Lipe] is mad at me, but this moment is great baby. Let’s go!”

Levi just beat Lipe, Jimmy Crigger, Mark Stewart, and Christian Morris. The Crown Vic Outlaw Super Series will return to Bowman Gray Stadium two more times this season on June 6 and July 18, respectively.

Always a popular event at Bowman Gray Stadium, the 20-car demolition derby ended a jam-packed Great Clips Crash Fest. The No. 556 of Brandon Johnston was the last one running over the T3 of Tony Johnston.

Week six of the Bowman Gray Stadium 2026 season will feature a 100-lap Sportsman race, on top of Twin 25-lap Modified shows, 20 laps for Street Stocks, and Stadium Stocks. This weekend will also be a double points night for all four divisions.
