John Holleman IV Earns First 2026 Win in Second Modified Race, Tyler McDonald and Chuck Wall Take Stadium Stock Triumphs with Craig Hartless Winning Street Stock Division Race
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (July 27, 2026) – The inaugural Groundworks 100 race night at Bowman Gray Stadium was full of fireworks. The marathon event for the Sportsman Division saw Billy Gregg win, retaking the points lead in the process. Modified races were split between points leader Burt Myers and fan favorite John Holleman IV. Tyler McDonald and Chuck Wall both picked up Stadium Stock victories with Craig Hartless picking up the win in the Street Stock division. Crown Vics rounded out the night and their season here with past Madhouse star Jonathan ‘Jon Boy’ Brown taking this checkered flag. NASCAR’s oldest running weekly racetrack saw a Saturday full of drama, contact, and tempers all around. Only four weeks remain now in the racing calendar, with crunch time here for each championship chase.
The Twin-25 lap night for The Brad’s Golf Cars Modified Division saw Burt Myers take career win number 106. Later in the night, this was matched by John Holleman IV’s No. 69, taking his first victory of 2026. Myers extends his championship lead over Tim Brown to 24 points after a fourth 2026 win for the No. 1.
“Golly that thing is on a rail,” Myers said in victory lane after leading race one wire-to-wire. “If I can just get out front and set my pace, it’s hard to beat. But we got to do a second race now, we’ll see what happens starting 10th.” Myers now owns 107 total wins at The Madhouse (106 Modified, one Sportsman), equaling Tim Brown for most checkered flags ever at the famed quarter-mile track.
John Holleman IV’s famed No. 69 started fourth in race two, took over with three laps left and never looked back. Holleman beat fellow Stadium veterans Tim Brown and Junior Snow to the checkers, with Burt Myers not far back in fourth. Holleman had to put elbows up a few times to take this win.
“A man can only take so much before it’s just enough,” Holleman said. “I was inside the No. 07, he ran me in the grass, and I hit the water before I even made contact with him. I hate that, but you know, it’s the same thing with the 47. He chopped me getting into turn three, and hey, once you do me dirty, it’s green light for me. We’re racing for a win baby, and that’s what we did tonight.”
Holleman takes an eighth career Bowman Gray Stadium triumph, ahead of next week’s FOX8 WGHP 100 for the Brad’s Golf Cars Modifieds.
The Law Offices of John Barrow Sportsman division also saw its points leader take another win. Billy Gregg was out front by a fender over teammate Bryan Sykes, Jr. after a chaotic last lap unfolded. Gregg’s No. 98 led 43 laps in the Groundworks 100 and now has an eight-point gap over Justin Taylor.
“I sure am having a good time,” Gregg said after his third win on the year. “Man me and [Sykes] Jr. were swapping them back and forth. I know we’re teammates, but we were taking the [restart] cone, going back and forth racing for it. There wasn’t nobody giving nobody nothing. Man I can’t do it without all of my guys.”
Pending results of a tire inspection, Sportsman results remain unofficial at this time. Fresh off hitting a century mark last week, Sportsman competitors will return in week 15 with Twin-20 lap races. Billy Gregg now holds a slim points lead over Justin Taylor, with his teammates Nate Gregg and Bryan Sykes Jr. not far behind.
Another pair of events in the Q104.1 Stadium Stock division saw Tyler McDonald and championship threat Chuck Wall take these wins. McDonald’s No. 47 has now gone to victory lane in back-to-back weeks, while Wall’s No. 81 owns two wins so far in 2026.
“We had some fast cars behind us tonight,” McDonald said. “I knew we had to pick it up to race into the A-Main, this is our second one, so we’ll be in the A-Main next week.”
“I got to thank Randy Butner for getting my head back to me,” Wall said after Bowman Gray Stadium win number 40. “I messed one up last week, took it to him on Sunday night, and he had it back to me on Monday night. I was able to get it back together and it’s rolling.” Wall now trails championship leader Stephen Sanders by only 10 points. Stadium Stock competitors return next week with one or two 15-lap races based on car count.
QRC HVAC & Refrigeration Street Stocks saw Craig Hartless inherit the win after Kyler Staley failed post-race inspection. Saturday marked a first win of 2026 for Hartless’ No. 10, beating Connor Keaton and last week’s winner Zac Cogar. Championship leader Brad Lewis came home fifth, now owning a 50-point gap over the competition. Lewis will try and return to victory lane this week in another 20-lap dash.
Closing out Saturday at The Madhouse was a 20-lap feature event for the Crown Vic Outlaw Super Series. The popular touring division made their third and final stop at Bowman Gray Stadium of the year, with a very familiar name in victory lane. Jonathan ‘Jon Boy’ Brown hopped into one of the old police cars and beat past winner Dean Levi. Brown, a 25-time Madhouse winner in Modifieds, was eager to return to victory lane here.
“I’m going to tell you something, that’s some of the most fun I’ve ever had at Bowman Gray Stadium,” Brown said. I really appreciate everyone for putting this on, Tony and Ashley for giving me the opportunity to drive this thing, and the Good Lord above.”
The FOX8 WGHP 100 will headline Saturday at Bowman Gray Stadium in the Modified division. Next week’s racing lineup at The Madhouse will feature all three other weekly divisions as well, with each title fight raging toward the finish line. One lucky fan in attendance will also win a Racing Electronics scanner pack giveaway.
