WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (July 21, 2017) – Zack Collins, Jameson Fisher and Matt Rose each went yard on Friday night, but the Salem Red Sox tied a season-high with four home runs as they cruised to a 13-8 victory at BB&T Ballpark.
Josh Ockimey stroked a two-out, solo homer in opening frame against Dash starter Dane Dunning (3-5), but Collins tied the game in the bottom of the inning.
On a 2-1 pitch from Red Sox starter Mike Shawaryn (4-2), the Dash backstop smashed a 414-foot blast over the concourse beyond the right field wall. Collins, who has 14 home runs in total with Winston-Salem (13-14, 37-60) this year, has hit a long ball in each of the club’s last three home games.
Leading off the second, Fisher gave the Dash their only advantage of the night on his third home run at the High-A level, smacking a solo shot into the seats in right field to put the Dash ahead 2-1.
However, Salem (18-10, 58-39) quickly knotted the contest in the next frame. Following a Tyler Spoon groundout, Victor Acosta skied the game’s fourth consecutive solo homer just fair inside the left field foul pole to make it a 2-2 contest.
The Red Sox third blast of the night provided the final lead change. After Jordan Betts and Tate Matheny hit back-to-back singles to begin the fourth, Austin Rei drilled a three-run homer into the Foothills Brew Pen to give Salem a 5-2 edge.
Jeremy Rivera capped Salem’s home run barrage in the fifth, smoking Dunning’s first pitch of the frame into the right field seats for his first round-tripper in the professional ranks. The Red Sox scored two more runs in the inning that were charged to Dunning, who gave up a career-high nine hits and eight runs in 4.2 innings of work.
The Red Sox then plated four in the sixth and one in the seventh against Zach Thompson, recording a season-high 21 hits, the most by an opponent in a game against Winston-Salem this season.
Louie Lechich stemmed the tide with two scoreless innings out of the bullpen, and Rose hit the final dinger of the evening in the eighth after the Dash plated two in the seventh. With one on and one out, the former Georgia State star blasted his first home run as a member of the White Sox organization to left-center against Marc Brakeman. Traded to the White Sox from the Cubs in a deal for big leaguer Jose Quintana, Rose has hit 15 homers this year between Winston-Salem and Myrtle Beach.
