Charlotte FC Falls to Philadelphia Union 2-0

After winning the previous two games, the amazing offense that came alive was nonexistent on Saturday, as the Charlotte FC were shutout by the Philadelphia Union 2-0.

The only opportunity that Charlotte had in the first half was when rookie midfielder Ben Bender shot wide of the goal. The second goal for Philadelphia came on a mistake from Charlotte goalkeeper Kristijan Kahlina. Kahlina passed the ball right to Philadelphia’s Daniel Gazdag inside his own box and Gazdag took advantage of it by scoring his fourth goal in his last four games.

Charlotte Head Coach Miguel Ramirez was quick to defend his goalkeeper.

“Critics are going to criticize us whether we play out of the back or play direct, whether we press high or sit low, whether we play with four or five at the back. Before that mistake, Kristijan had some 50 positive actions. So let’s focus on those 50 actions instead of the one mistake.”

Despite losing the game Ramirez still saw positives.

“The important thing though is that despite this team being so young and new, we were able to compete with this caliber of team until the very end.”

Competing is something this team has been doing all year and they will get a chance to redeem themselves when they play the Atlanta United this upcoming Saturday at 2:30 PM.
