Brown makes presence known with wire-to-wire Modified run, Taylor puts Sportsman
division in championship stalemate after Double Points Night
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (June 8, 2026) – Double Points Night at Bowman Gray Stadium brought with it peak drama and major title-defining performances in each division. All five races from Saturday saw intense battles between some of the best drivers in their divisions. Max points rewarded saw each winner take over their championship points lead or make massive inroads to the top spot in the standings.
The QRC HVAC & Refrigeration Street Stocks saw a championship-caliber run by their points leader in the opening race of the night. Brad Lewis started second in the No. 16, took the lead from the start, and stayed out front for the rest of the race. Time limit cut this event three laps shy of its full distance, making Lewis the first repeat winner of 2026.
“First of all got to thank God,” Lewis said after his 12th career Madhouse win. “I’m not perfect but I know who is. All this right here, my family and teammates and sponsors, they all make this car go fast. Especially TWI Motors, they made some adjustments that helped. We messed up that last restart, but we still showed we were the fastest here tonight.” Lewis just beat out last week’s winner Kevin Gilbert, Jayden Cordell, Zac Cogar, and Connor Keaton to the checkers.
The QRC HVAC & Refrigeration Street Stocks return to action next week with another 20-lap race.
The stars of Bowman Gray Stadium’s premier division roared to life in Double Points Night with a double feature, as the Brad’s Golf Cars Modifieds saw Twin 25-lap races. The first race was led wire-to-wire by Tim Brown, beating Burt Myers for his second win of the year and number 107 for his legendary Madhouse career. Following this checkered flag, the 12-time Bowman Gray Stadium champion drew eighth place for the second race’s redraw position.
“Man my hat’s off to this race team, all my sponsors, and the Lord above,” Brown said. ”If it wasn’t for Him, none of this would be possible. We got so many people on this car, and so much Rahmoc power man. I tell you, y’all just watched the two best that’s here tonight put a show on. That 1 car is super fast, and I love racing with him, he makes you better.” Behind Brown and Burt Myers at the first race’s finish were: Junior Snow, Jason Myers, and Slate Myers.
Race two of the Modifieds’ night saw Mike Speeney fire off from the second starting position and never look back. The Myers family’s recent rival led 24 of 25 laps en route to his own second Madhouse win of 2026. Speeney had the upper hand on: Riley Neal, Jordan Fleming, Slate Myers, and Junior Snow when the checkers fell.
“We got ourselves in a hole in qualifying,” Speeney said. “We just made some really good adjustments and kind of had to plow through the field in the first race. We then got ourselves in a position to win this second race.” Brad’s Golf Cars Modifieds will be back as the headliner for next week at Bowman Gray Stadium, with the Tuff Shed Twin 50s Presented by Q104.1.
Pushed back two weeks, the Law Offices of John Barrow Sportsman Division brought the heat with their first 100-lap race of the year. Polesitter Justin Taylor put forth a gritty and determined drive, leading all but 15 laps in his maiden win of 2026 and 12th career victory at The Madhouse.
“Yeah I ain’t gonna lie, with about 30 to go I was begging for the time limit,” Taylor said. “It wasn’t the best car, but I’m gonna tell you, I kept watching fast cars getting wrecked and drive through each other. I was like ‘keep doing it y’all and we’ll go on to take the checkered.’ Man, hat’s off to the 31 [Chase Robertson], I drove him pretty crappy. But I’m gonna tell you, that thing was nine cars wide. There ain’t no way he was gonna pass me without wrecking me, and I know he’s a better driver than that. I want to thank the man upstairs, my family and I have been struggling, the past week’s been terrible, but this is good. This is the biggest thing that’s happened to me all week.”
Behind Taylor and Chase Robertson at the finish were: Bryan Sykes Jr., Ryan Robertson, and Kirk Sheets. With the win, Taylor is now one point behind Billy Gregg for the championship lead with 293 points. This tight battle will rage on this Saturday with the Law Offices of John Barrow Sportsman Division hosting Twin 20-Lap races.
The perfect 5-0 winning record Luke Smith had in the Q104.1 Stadium Stock division was finally put to rest. Chuck Wall in the No. 81 started second, quickly took the lead, and never looked back. Despite Luke Smith carving his way to second in the early laps, the No. 80 was no match for past champion Wall’s march to his 39th career win. Wall has owned the special 50-lap event now for four-straight seasons.
“We ran up on [some lapped traffic], and I knew Luke [Smith] was on my back bumper,” Wall said. “I got to apologize to the 5 [Andre Chavez], but at the same time, we kind of had to go. I didn’t end up turning him, so I guess that’s a good thing. I hate to get into somebody like that, but we had nowhere to go.”
“We had bad luck on the first night. After that, we finished second a few times to some awesome cars. That 80, he’s tough right now. If he was in front of me, I’d have never gotten around him. He was probably being nice to me, he’s got to points race a little bit. Didn’t take no cheap shot or nothing like that, so I appreciate that from him.”
Brandon Brendle, Stephen Sanders, and Levi Holt completed the top-five in the special event. One spot shy of a perfect season through six races, Luke Smith still commands the championship lead over Chuck Wall. These two titans of the Q104.1 Stadium Stock division will duke it out again Saturday with one or two 15-lap races.
In addition to the Tuff Shed Twin 50s Presented by Q104.1 for the Modifieds, week nine at Bowman Gray Stadium will feature all regular divisions in action plus the Crown Vic Outlaw Super Series. This touring division turned many heads in their debut a few weeks ago and make a highly anticipated return to The Madhouse.
