GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College head football coach Chris Rusiewicz announced the official commitment of five student-athletes to play football for the Quakers Monday. They have paid their deposits to Guilford and will enroll for classes beginning in August. Rusiewicz’s sixth recruiting class now consists of 20 committed students.
Kasseem Bagley (Lawrenceville, Ga.) lettered four years for coach Todd Wofford at Central Gwinnett High School. The 5-6, 140-pound defensive back was an honorable mention All-Gwinnett County selection and helped the Black Knights to two third-round Georgia High School Association (GHSA) AAAAAA State Playoff appearances. Bagley also lettered twice in both wrestling and track and field. He plans to study sport management upon arrival at Guilford.
Steven Baldwin (Greensboro, N.C.) lettered three years for coach Walter Hessenthaler at nearby Southeast Guilford High School. The 5-9, 190-pound running back led Guilford County with 1,202 rushing yards last fall en route to All-Metro 4A conference honors as well as all-area and all-state honorable mentions. In two seasons as the Falcons’ primary running back, Baldwin totaled over 1,800 yards and 17 touchdowns. He plans to study business administration. Baldwin’s cousin, Jaylen Wiley ‘16, graduated from Guilford May 14 after playing four football seasons with the Quakers.
Mils Eisenberg (Athens, Ga.) lettered four years for coach Terry Tuley at North Oconee High School. A 6-0, 180-pound defensive back, he leaves North Oconee second in school history in solo tackles. Eisenberg earned Second Team All-Region 8 AAAA honors last fall, and received an honorable mention nod as a junior. He was selected to play in the Athens Area FCA All-Star Game this year and was a GHSA 4A State All-Academic Football Team honoree. He plans to study biology at Guilford.
Jermaine Russell (Durham, N.C.) lettered for coach Darius Robinson at South Durham High School. The 5-7, 160-pound receiver led the Big Eight 3A Conference with 756 receiving yards and reeled in six touchdown catches. Russell helped Southern Durham to the 3AA state title game where he led all receivers with 136 yards and a touchdown on six catches. In four post-season contests last fall, he made 16 grabs for 360 yards and three touchdowns. He plans to major in sport management upon arrival at Guilford.
J.J. Webb Jr. (Elon, N.C.) lettered twice coach Jeff Snuffer at Western Alamance High School. The 6-3, 220-pound defensive end made 95 tackles with 14.0 sacks as a senior en route to first-team all-region honors. A knack for getting to the backfield, he tallied 124 tackles in two years with 15.0 career sacks. Webb also earned Academic All-Mid State 3A honors and a varsity letter in track and field. A four-year member of National Junior ROTC, Webb will graduate as a First Lieutenant and plans to study criminal justice at Guilford.
Guilford expects 17 starters among 79 returning letter winners from the 2015 team that went 9-1, the best football season in school history. The Quakers open the 2016 campaign September 3 against visiting Greensboro College in the 20th annual Gate City Soup Bowl.
