After coming off an amazing upset win over Miami, NC State was entering the game on Monday night with great momentum. Unfortunately for the Wolfpack, Florida State had a lot more. The Seminoles have won 3 straight games and have won 5 out of out their last 7.
NC State got off to a slow start in the first half. The Wolf pack were shooting only 35.7 percent from the field. Florida State was also incorporating a trapping and pressure scheme towards N.C State that was highly effective. Anthony Cat Barber however wasn’t effected by the strategy as he turned in another sensational performance. Barber led all player with 31 points. Continuing to lead the conference in scoring, with his 6th 30 or more point game, Barber leads the entire league. Florida State ended the half with a 38-26 point lead.
With the Seminoles up by 11 points six minutes into the second half, the Wolfpack started to get back into the game. N C State went on an 11-2 run to get within 2 points with 10:28 remaining. It was a back and forth game until the Seminoles extended the lead to 10 going on an 8-0 run.
Cat Barber rallied the Wolf pack back scoring 8 straight points. A valiant effort no doubt, but Florida State held on with a last possesion shot by Dewayne Bacon to seal the game 77-73. Bacon just named ACC rookie of the week, led the Seminoles with 20 points and Malik Beasley added 15 points. For the Wolf pack a side from Barber’s 31 points, Caleb Martin shot 5 for 9 57% with 14 points and 6 rebounds, and Cody Martin had 10 points for N.C State. The Wolfpack are now 12-11(2-8) and will face in state rival Duke on Saturday at 2pm
