Carolina Hurricanes Return To Raleigh With Five Wins On 6-Game Road Trip

[email protected]

We’re three weeks into the NHL season and, if you haven’t been watching the Carolina Hurricanes already, might we suggest you start now.

After losing their season opener to the Tampa Bay Lightning back on October 11, the Canes have lost just one game. Before leaving for their annual North Carolina State Fair Road Trip, the Canes responded with a 4-2 victory over the New Jersey Devils.

Carolina started its successful road trip with a 4-1 thumping of the Pittsburgh Penguins on Friday, Oct. 18, then ended it with a 4-3 overtime victory at the Vancouver Canucks on Monday.

Now back home for a Halloween bash against the Boston Bruins, let’s take a brief look at each game on the Canes’ successful road trip.

10/18: 4-1 win at Pittsburgh Penguins

Carolina started its first road slate with a come-from-behind win at Pittsburgh, historically one of the NHL’s best teams.

The Pens scored the game’s first goal, only for the Canes to answer with four straight. Rookie Jackson Blake tied the game at one goal apiece in the first period, Martin Nečas added the go-ahead goal in the second period, then Shayne Gostisbehere and former New York Ranger Jack Roslovic added goals.

10/19: 4-3 loss at St. Louis Blues

Carolina took a 1-0 lead into the second period, only to be undone by three second-period goals from St. Louis.

Andrei Svenchnikov, more commonly known in Raleigh as “Svech,” gave the Canes their initial lead. Ghost (Shayne Gostisbehere) scored his third 2024 goal in the third period, while Roslovic added his second of the year.

10/22: 3-2 overtime win at Edmonton Oilers

Talk about early-season fireworks for the Bunch of Jerks. Facing a 2-0 deficit going into the third period of last Tuesday’s game in Edmonton, Ghost and Nečas scored in regulation to send things into overtime.

With just seven seconds until a shootout, Sebastian Aho scored a game-winner and sent his teammates into jubilation.

10/24: 4-2 win at Calgary Flames

This might’ve been Carolina’s most balanced scoring game of its young season, as it scored in all three periods.

Seth Jarvis started the scoring party on a first-period powerplay goal. Roslovic and Nečas added second-period goals, then free agent signee Eric Robinson scored his first 2024 goal in the third period.

10/26: 4-1 win at Seattle Kraken

Svech, Jarvis, Jack Drury and Dmitry Orlov scored for the Canes in Washington State. Carolina’s defense was also phenomenal, limiting Seattle to just 19 shots on goal.

10/28: 4-3 overtime win at Vancouver Canucks

It wouldn’t be a Canes game without a little drama. Carolina was up 3-1 on Vancouver entering the third period, then allowed Quinn Hughes and Pius Suter to score.Aho’s heroics came through in the extra time period again, scoring just 47 seconds in, to send his teammates back to Raleigh with their fifth win in six road games.
