WOODBRIDGE, Va. (May 30, 2016) – Spencer Adams matched a career-high with eight dominant innings, and Keon Barnum leveled his first home run in Winston-Salem’s 8-2 victory over Potomac on Monday night at Pfitzner Stadium.

For the second time in as many tries against Potomac (26-22), Adams (5-3) spun an eight-inning gem. He permitted just two runs on five hits and struck out seven en route to his team-leading fifth win.

The 20-year-old tossed a season-high 105 pitches, 74 of which were strikes, and pushed his 2016 innings total to a Carolina League-leading 65.0 innings. On May 14 at BB&T Ballpark, Adams held the P-Nats to two runs on four hits in a 4-2 Dash triumph.

Offensively, the Dash (19-33) scored in four different innings. Barnum’s home run began the second and evened the contest at one apiece after Jose Marmolejos’ solo shot gave Potomac a short-lived lead in the first. Barnum had not gone deep in his first 21 games since coming off the disabled list.

Winston-Salem took the lead for good with a pair in the third inning. Gerson Montilla registered his first RBI in a week thanks to a single, and Barnum followed with a sacrifice fly.

Marcus Davis pushed his hitting streak to nine, matching the longest by a Winston-Salem hitter this year, with an RBI single in the fifth to make it 4-1. The Dash doubled their offensive output with four in the eighth with the use of one hit, a Mason Robbins two-run double. The other two tallies came via a bases-loaded walk and a wild pitch.

In the eighth, Potomac’s relief duo of Dakota Bacus and Matthew Spann combined to throw 33 pitches, but only nine of them were strikes. All four runs were charged to Bacus, as Spann allowed three inherited runners to score after Bacus exited in a 5-1 game.

The P-Nats did add a run in the eighth on a Marmolejos RBI fielder’s choice, but Adams wiggled out of the frame with an outing-ending strikeout. Danny Dopico worked around a double and walk in the ninth to cap the 8-2 victory.

The Dash had dropped five in a row before rattling off back-to-back victories on Sunday and Monday to salvage a split in this four-game set. Winston-Salem, who improved to 14-14 on the road this season, returns to BB&T Ballpark starting Wednesday for a seven-game homestand against Carolina. The Dash have a 5-19 mark in the Triad, the worst home record in the Minor Leagues.

Following a league-wide off day Tuesday, Winston-Salem returns to action on Wednesday at 7 p.m. against the division rival Mudcats, the High-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves. The Dash send Brandon Brennan (0-3, 7.32 ERA) to the bump against fellow right-hander Matt Withrow (2-4, 4.17 ERA). Pregame coverage begins at 6:45 p.m. on wsdash.com/broadcast, MiLB.tv and the TuneIn Radio App.

#YourHomeTeam’s upcoming week-long homestand includes a postgame fireworks show, presented by AT&T, on Friday, June 3, and an All-You-Can-Eat for Free Night on Tuesday, June 7. Call the Dash at (336) 714-2287 or visit wsdash.com for tickets.
