After a long wait, fans returned for the 72nd season of racing at the Madhouse. Opening night did not seem to disappoint, as it was a packed house with nearly over 20,000 fans packed in to stands as they witnessed the return of racing at Bowman Gray.
For the first time in 22 months things finally felt normal again. Fans witnessed two respected former champions pick up right where they left off back in 2019, while a fan favorite stole the show after not knowing whether he’d be racing or not. Then a tiger putting his prey on notice.
We kicked off the 2021 season off with the Sportsman Series with Tommy “Tiger” Neal and Michael Adams battling most of the race for the win as Tommy Neal would hold on for the win. Adams second, Zack Ore third, 2019 Champion Justin Taylor fourth and Sterling Plemmons rounding out your top 5.
Next up would be the Main Event, Brad’s Golf Cart Modified Series race…the Hayes Jewelers 200. Burt Myers and Tim Brown would start 1-2. Burt would lead majority of the race until a pit stop, as John Holleman would take the lead and go on to lead for a while until he would have to pit. That would place Camping World Truck Series driver and former Track champion Danny Bohn in the lead until Jonathan Brown would grab the lead and go on to lead the remainder of the race and pick up his first Hayes Jewelers 200 after missing qualifying and being unsure whether or not he’d be racing in the event or let alone this season. Bohn second, Civali third, Showstopper Chris Fleming fourth and fifth Brandon Ward
Street Stock would follow as Billy Gregg would lead flag to flag in a caution free race as he continues his dominance from 2019. Christian Joyce second, Gerald Robinson third, Donnie Martin fourth and David Creed fifth
Chuck Wall and Robert Strmiska would win in the Stadium Stock races
Be sure you’re at the Madhouse this Saturday June 12th as it’ll be the Thunder Road Grill Street Stock 50 lapper presented by 94.5; Twin 25-lap Modified races; Chain Race plus a Sportsman and two Stadium Stock races.
RACE RESULTS: June 5
