Ladies and Gentlemen welcome to the second installment of drivers Q & A for the 2021 season. I had the opportunity to interview six time winner at Bowman Gray in the modified division, Brandon Ward driver of the Q104, Kevin Powell Moto, New Day Motorsports. Brandon has a total of 24 top five’s, 44 top ten’s in just 73 starts at the Madhouse. He has also been able to win the last three out of four season ending 150 lap races.

Q: What was it that got you interested in racing?

A: Going to drag races when I was a kid is what got me interested in racing.

Q: Who would you say was your favorite race car driver / idol growing up?

A: Dale Earnhardt was my favorite race car driver growing up.

Q: What win would you say means the most to you?

A: All wins mean so much but my first win in a race car is still probably the most memorable. It was a NASCAR Goody’s Dash Series race at Bristol Motor Speedway in 2001

Q: You are completing in the SMARTS tour, as well as running the Bowman Gray, what would mean more to you to win the SMARTS tour title or the BGS title?

A: Winning either title would be huge. I say that just because championships at any track or any series are tough to win. Pretty much if we compete in it we want to win.

Q: Other than winning what would you say is the most proudest moment of your career?

A: Other than winning I think my proudest thing about racing is just getting to represent all of the teams and sponsors that I’ve had the opportunity to represent over the years. I’ve met so many great people throughout my racing years and being able to work with them has meant so much to me.

Q: What is it about Bowman Gray that stands out to you and brings you back for more?

A: The fans are the biggest thing about Bowman Gray that stands out to me. That keeps us all coming back for more. They have the biggest and most loyal fan base of anywhere in the country and that means so much to us and our race teams.

Q: You have had the opportunity to also race in Hooter’s Pro Cup, Goody Dash, Super Late Models and other series. Of all the series you have raced in, what series would you say was the most enjoyable to race in? And why? Then what was the most challenging series to race in? And why?

A: Of all the divisions that I’ve raced in I really have enjoyed them all in different ways. I could probably talk for hours about all the great things yet different things about each division. If I had to pick I would probably say the Hooters Pro Cup series was my favorite. It was a very very competitive series. I enjoyed the way the series was ran and the tracks that we got to race at. All of the races were televised and at that point of my racing career it was just a big deal to be a part of.

Q: How important would you say that your spotter is to when it comes to racing at BGS compared to other tracks?

A: A spotter at any race track is very very important. It’s also a difficult job to do. At Bowman Gray a spotters roll can become even more challenging just because things happen so fast and the race track can get blocked up quickly. You are constantly in traffic even when leading the race so a spotter has to be able to watch us and both ends of the race track all at the same time.

Q: Of all of your competitors, who would you say you enjoy racing against most? And why?

A: I don’t really have a favorite competitor to race against. I just enjoy competition. I love it when we have full fields of good cars that can race hard and put on good shows for the fans.

Q: What is the most difficult thing about racing? getting the car ready, making sure you have sponsors, or etc.

A: I think the expense of racing is the most difficult part. It can completely dictate what you are able to do as a team. Everything from preparing the equipment for the event to the travel expenses it takes to get there. This is one of the biggest challenges for every racing organization at any level.

Q: We’ve all heard and seen his commercials… so I just got to know how Krazy is Kevin really?

A: Krazy Kevin is a super good guy. He has done so much for me and does so much for people through his dealerships. His commercials are Krazy but at the end of the day he is just a “Krazy” good guy.

Be sure you check out this weekend’s action as it’ll be the O’Reilly Auto Parts 100, a 100 lapper for Modified Series. There will also be another Fans’ Challenge bonus on the line. And once again, also it will be double points in all divisions. Plus two 20-lap Sportsman races, a 20-lap Street Stock races, and two 15-lap Stadium Stock races.
