Wolfpack Battles to 89-80 OT Victory Over Eagles

Devon Daniels posts a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds

RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State men’s basketball team fought through a late second-half surge by Boston College to force overtime and ultimately defeat the visiting Eagles, 89-80, Wednesday night inside PNC Arena.

With the win, NC State improves to 19-8 (7-7 ACC), while the Eagles fall to 13-12 (4-9 ACC).

For the eighth time in ACC play, the Wolfpack saw at least four players score in double figures, led by 19 points from Devon Daniels. The sophomore posted the first double-double of his Wolfpack career as he tied his season-best in scoring and added a team-best 11 rebounds and a season-best five steals, the most steals by any NC State player this season.

Torin Dorn and C.J. Bryce each added 17 points, followed by Braxton Beverly, who tallied 15, and DJ Funderburk, who posted 11.

Boston College fought back from a double-digit deficit in the second half to take a lead with 7:15 remaining in the game.

The Eagles led by one with under a minute remaining, but Dorn knocked down a free throw with 31 seconds left in regulation to tie the score at 73. Boston College missed a three-point attempt to win at the buzzer, sending the game into overtime.

The Pack hit four of its first six shots in the overtime period to build up an eight-point lead (83-75) and cruised from there to the win.

The Pack built up its biggest halftime lead in ACC action this season as it took a nine-point advantage into the break. NC State’s 46 first-half points were the most points the Pack has scored in the first half in conference play this season.

The Wolfpack led by as many as 14 points (60-46) in the second half before going cold from the floor. NC State missed nine field goal attempts in a row and went through a six-minute span during which it scored zero points.

Boston College, meanwhile, took advantage of a 15-0 run during which it hit five unanswered shots to take a 66-64 lead at the 7:15 mark, its first lead since it was up 9-6 at the 15:59 mark in the first half. Over the final 3:18 of action, the score was tied five times, and the teams exchanged lead on five occasions.

NC State will be back in action on Sunday night as it hosts Wake Forest inside PNC Arena. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m., and the game will be broadcast live on ESPNU.
