The Thunderbirds remain atop the FHL Standings holding a five-point lead over both Watertown and Danville. Watertown has one game in hand over the Thunderbirds.
Last weekend saw Carolina gain four points out of a possible six when the Thunderbirds shutout Port Huron 4-0 on Friday night behind Christian Pavlas’ first shutout as a Thunderbird and a hat trick from Jan Salak.
On Saturday, a sell-out crowd of 3,050 witnessed the first game decided by the pre-game shootout when the game ended 4-4 after a 3-on-3 overtime period. Port Huron had won the shootout prior to the game start 1-0. Beau Walker, Stan Vlasov, Tommy Mahoney and Petr Panacek all had goals in the shootout defeat.
The Thunderbirds loaned out two players to the SPHL over the weekend. Taylor Love was set to re-join the team this weekend after serving a two-game suspension but instead got the call from the Macon Mayhem where he signed a 3-game tryout.
Henry Dill also made his way to the SPHL via loan, signing a contract with the Pensacola Ice Flyers this week.
The Thunderbirds are on the road this weekend with a Friday night game in Elmira and a Saturday night game in Watertown. After the quick two game road swing the Thunderbirds are back at the Annex for three straight. Two against Elmira and the front half of a home-and-home against Danville just before Christmas.
Tickets are on sale at the Fairgrounds Box Office and on TicketMaster.
