Three takeaways from No. 12 UNC’s upset victory over No. 4 Gonzaga (via Sporting News)

UNC needed a signature win on Saturday against Gonzaga, and it was able to topple the nation’s No. 4 team.

The Tar Heels claimed a 103-90 victory, overcoming the constant pursuit of the Bulldogs.

The Tar Heels dominated the boards
Second-chance points were huge for the Tar Heels, as they dominated the Bulldogs on the glass.

UNC recorded 43 rebounds, nearly doubling Gonzaga’s total of 23.

The Bulldogs were overpowered by second-chance points, so the lead of the game remained elusive.

Sharpshooting from deep
The Tar Heels shot a staggering 52 percent from behind the arc from the game.

Both teams were close in terms of volume, as UNC and Gonzaga shot 25 and 22 3-pointers respectively.

However, UNC connected on five more of their tries, and Cameron Johnson made six of his eight attempts.
