Celebrities attend football games and get entangled with athletes all the time, however all those celebrities don’t boast the musical catalog of multi grammy award winner Taylor Swift.
Most celebrities also don’t have 336 million followers across social media, she basically has the reach equivalent to a continent. So when a public figure like that enters a stadium, millions of people notice.
Then when you pair her presence with one of the most notable personalities in the NFL like Travis Kelce, you have the perfect recipe for headline news. Also adding to the mystique of the entire thing is how low key the two are keeping their situation, Travis has been tight lipped even during an interview with his own brother on the “New Heights podcast” they both host.
“What’s real is that it is my personal life,” Travis said. “I want to respect both of our lives. She’s not in the media as much as I am doing this show every single week and having fun on other guys’ shows like ‘The [Pat] McAfee’ and any other show I go on from here on out.
“I’m enjoying life, and I sure as hell enjoyed this weekend. So everything moving forward, I think me talking about sports and saying ‘alright now’ will have to be kind of where I keep it.” said Kelce.
Since Swift’s first appearance at ArrowHead Stadium Front Office Sports reported; Kelce has had a 400 percent increase in jersey sales making him top five in the league, his podcast shot to number one on apple, and Kelce added 383,000 followers on instagram, insane!
Front Office Sports numbers also show the Chiefs and the league as a whole are benefiting from Swift’s presence; 24.3 million viewers watched the Chiefs stomp out the Chicago Bears, the league saw a 63 percent increase of female viewership between ages 18 and 49, the Chiefs also sold more tickets in a single day then they have any other since the start of the season.
Social Media is running wild over this entanglement too, Dallas Cowboys star Micah Parsons has been encouraging more NFL players to shoot their shots, Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban is auctioning off his players to Swift also, trying to get her out to some basketball games.
TMZ reported that Swift hit it off with Momma Kelce, and the family, she was seen giving out chest bumps and cheering as hard as anyone. TMZ also reported that Swift hit it off with Brittney Mahomes, the two were seen out after the game taking victory shots, and also reportedly plan to keep in contact.
So it seems like Swift nailed the first public impression and could be around for awhile, however could this all be a business ploy?
Swift is the most notable of Travis Kelce’s publicized “dating history” and it’s no secret he’s been all about the sistas in the past. Many black women have come to the defense of Kayla Nicole, Travis Kelce’s longtime ex girlfriend, saying Kelce downgraded with Swift. Others have pointed out the come up Swift has been for Kelce outside of football in his other business ventures.
I’m not here to say who’s right or wrong, but the numbers don’t lie and it’s obvious Kelce has tapped into an entirely different fanbase that had no idea who he was before Swift showed up.
We’re only seeing what they want us to at this point but it seems like the two are genuinely hitting it off. If this is a business ploy though it’s one of the biggest finnesses of all time.
We’ve seen people use relationships to level up professionally in the past, where it’s benefited one or both parties involved, so it wouldn’t be completely shocking if that’s the case.
I actually think that would be smart business just saying!
For now Swift is expected to attend another Chiefs game to cheer on Kelce, maybe Chiefs Kingdom has a new queen in town.
We’ll see if this is a love story and if Kelce and Swift just say yes.
