North Carolina vs UNC Charlotte Sept 19th Football Game Cancelled due to Covid -19

The University of North Carolina at Charlotte announced Thursday morning that the football game scheduled vs North Carolina for Saturday Sept 19th has been cancelled due to the impace contact tracing has had on a particular position group for the 49ers.

Several members of the Charlotte offensive line have been placed into quarantine, depleting the depth for that unit. Over the past 2 weeks, 3 football student athletes have tested positive for Covid through regular testing protocols. The students will quarantine for 14 days.

“We’re extremely disappointed to have to cancel our game at North Carolina. While I know our team is heartbroken, due to the number of players in quarantine, we could not safely play,” athletic director Mike Hill said in the release. “We very much appreciate the University of North Carolina working with us to schedule this game.”

Charlotte had been a late addition to UNC’s 2020 football schedule after the ACC’s annnounced a revamped 10+1 schedule announced last month. The Tar Heels announced the first-ever meeting between the two in-state programs on Aug. 8.

The Tar Heels will host the 49ers on Sept. 7, 2024 and will play at Charlotte on Sept. 6, 2025.
