RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State men’s basketball team committed 18 turnovers, its second-most in a game this season, to fall to Boston College, 69-61, inside PNC Arena on Wednesday night.
The Pack’s 18 turnovers led to 21 Boston College points as the Eagles had a 21-9 advantage in points off turnovers. BC’s 12 steals were the most for an NC State opponent this season.
Boston College jumped out to a 14-4 lead and still led 27-16 with 6:19 left in the first half when the Pack suddenly came alive, going on a 13-3 run to cut the deficit to 30-29 with 3:04 left in the half. Boston College took a 33-31 lead into the break.
The Pack took the lead on a Casey Morsell three-pointer in the opening minute of the second half and led 39-37 with 14:51 to go after a Jericole Hellems three-pointer.
Boston College went on a 20-5 run though over the next eight minutes, taking a 57-44 lead with 6:49 to play.
NC State would cut the deficit to nine with 5:48 to play, but the Eagles went on mini 4-0 burst to push the advantage back into double digits and NC State would not get closer than seven the rest of the way.
Terquavion Smith led the Pack with 21 points in the loss. He hit four three-pointers on Wednesday and now has 83 on the season which is the most by an NC State freshman in program history.
Dereon Seabron added 20 points. He scored 17 of his 20 points in the first half.
NC State is back in action Saturday when it hosts North Carolina inside PNC Arena. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. and the game will be televised on ESPN.
