Is Logan Paul good for WWE?

Logan Paul announced on Monday he signed a new contract with the WWE. His contract had expired after his loss at this year’s WrestleMania to Seth Rollins at So-Fi Stadium.

Logan Paul made his first WWE appearance last spring in a segment with The Miz. The duo teamed up defeating Rey Mysterio and his son Dominik at WrestleMania 38 in April 2022, before The Miz would turn on Logan Paul after the match.

The “Impaulsive” star would go on to defeat The Miz at SummerSlam, challenge Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia, create a magical moment in the Royal Rumble, before falling to Rollins at this year’s WrestleMania.

With Logan Paul remaining in WWE for the foreseeable future, is he good for the WWE? Or does he put the company behind?

Take the good: Logan Paul brings eyes to the product. Logan Paul has more than 5 million subscribers on YouTube, 17 million on TikTok, and 25 million on Instagram. The WWE in a time of needing eyes on the product, competing against social media, sports, and other streaming services, Paul attracts a new audience.

Logan Paul is also a good “heel” – a villain in sports entertainment terms. Whether you get showered by love from the fans or booed out of the building, upper management looks at the crowd reaction. Do the fans care about you enough to make noise? Or is the crowd silent and off to the bathroom? Paul gets booed, but he plays into the character.

You take the pro’s with the con’s. He’s a celebrity, so he fast-tracked his way to the WWE. He’s occupied two matches at WrestleMania, one at SummerSlam, a main event title opportunity, and a spot in the Royal Rumble match. This means someone who is on the road 52 weeks a year isn’t getting the opportunity to compete on premium live events, only because they chose the “wrestling lifer” route and to make this their entire career.

While he is a celebrity bringing new eyes to the WWE product, he is taking up a spot on payroll, and perhaps some serious cash too. In an industry impacted by “budget cuts” this likely means we’ll see more talent lose their jobs to keep a spot for Logan Paul.

Many fans have strong opinions on Logan Paul. The WWE Universe either really likes Paul, or the fans really despise him. Whatever side of the fence you lean on, two things are certain: he attracts views and he garners a reaction. As long as those two statements are true, Logan Paul will be associated with the biggest sports-entertainment brand in the world, WWE.
