Grimsley Moves to 6-0, Defeats Western Guilford 48-0

Grimsley High School’s dominant football season continued on Friday, October 4, 2024, as they cruised to a 48-0 victory over Western Guilford. The Whirlies showcased their powerhouse offense and relentless defense, securing their sixth win of the season and extending their perfect record.

Grimsley set the tone early, jumping to a commanding lead in the first half, and never looked back. Their ground game was particularly strong, with multiple players contributing to the offensive onslaught. The Whirlies’ defense was just as impressive, holding Western Guilford scoreless and forcing several turnovers, continuing their string of dominant performances.

Key offensive highlights for Grimsley included a standout performance from running back Mitchell Summers, who rushed for 66 yards and added 2 touchdowns. Quarterback Faizon Brandon also managed the offense effectively, distributing the ball to his receivers and contributing to Grimsley’s balanced attack. Brandon finished 8-10 for 206 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Defensively, the Whirlies swarmed Western Guilford’s offense, limiting their ability to move the ball and creating scoring opportunities through turnovers. The Whirlies’ defense was a big factor in the win, with Bryce Davis and Jaiden Wardlaw recording four sacks between them. Davis also made five or more tackles in the last eight games he’s played

This win further solidifies Grimsley’s position as one of the top teams in the region, as they continue their march toward a potential playoff berth. For Western Guilford, the loss drops them to 4-2 on the season, with hopes of bouncing back in their next matchup.

Grimsley’s next test will be against Page High School, while Western Guilford looks to recover in their upcoming game. Both teams will be looking to make adjustments as they head into the latter half of the season.
