Grimsley Headlines 2025 Keep Pounding Classic High School Football Season Opener at Bank of America Stadium

Charlotte, NC – The 2025 High School Football Season in North Carolina is set to begin with a bang on Friday, August 22nd, as Bank of America Stadium plays host to the highly anticipated 2025 Keep Pounding High School Classic. This annual showcase of top North Carolina and South Carolina high school football talent promises a thrilling doubleheader that fans won’t want to miss.  

The afternoon kicks off at 4:00 PM with a compelling interstate battle between the Hough Huskies from Cornelius, North Carolina, and the South Pointe Stallions hailing from Rock Hill, South Carolina. Both programs boast rich traditions and are perennial contenders in their respective states. This early matchup will provide a fantastic opportunity to witness high-caliber football as these two powerhouses collide. Expect a hard-fought contest filled with exciting plays and future collegiate stars vying for an early-season victory.  

However, the main event of the evening, slated for an 8:00 PM kickoff, features a North Carolina showdown that has already generated significant buzz across the state. The Grimsley Whirlies of Greensboro will face off against the West Charlotte Lions in a game brimming with talent and intrigue.

The nightcap showcases last year’s 4A champion Grimsley vs last year’s 3A champion in West Charlotte. The NCHSAA voted to expand the classifications to 8 classes starting this season. Grimsley is now in 7A and West Charlotte is in 8A.

All eyes will undoubtedly be on Grimsley’s senior quarterback, Faizon Brandon. Ranked as the #1 prep quarterback in the nation and a highly touted commit to the University of Tennessee, Brandon returns to lead a Whirlies team with high aspirations. His arm talent, athleticism, and leadership will be a formidable challenge for any defense. Football enthusiasts across the country will be eager to see Brandon in action on this big stage, and his performance could set the tone for his senior season.

West Charlotte, however, will be no pushover. The Lions are known for their athleticism and tenacity, and they will relish the opportunity to test themselves against one of the nation’s top teams. This matchup promises a fascinating contrast in styles, with Grimsley likely relying on Brandon’s arm and playmaking ability, while West Charlotte will aim to counter with a strong defensive effort and explosive plays of their own.
