Duke Earns No. 1 Spot in Final AP Poll

DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke men’s basketball team has earned the No. 1 ranking in the Associated Press’ final Top 25 poll for the 2018-19 season, marking the eighth time in school history the Blue Devils have earned the spot.

The final AP poll was released Monday, with ACC Champion Duke (29-5) garnering 58 of the 64 first-place votes on the heels of earning the NCAA Tournament’s overall No. 1 seed.

Each of Duke’s eight appearances as the final AP No. 1 have come under head coach Mike Krzyzewski, breaking a tie with UCLA coach John Wooden for the most in history. As a program, Duke’s eight trail only Kentucky’s 11 all-time.

When playing in the NCAA Tournament as the AP No. 1 team, Duke holds a 28-5 record and won National Championships in 1992 and 2001 — both coming in Minneapolis, Minn.

With Duke at No. 1, Virginia at No. 2 and North Carolina at No. 3, it marks the first time in AP Poll history that one conference occupied the top three spots in any week.

The Blue Devils open the 2019 NCAA Tournament Friday night in Columbia, S.C., against either NC State or North Dakota State. Tip off is set for 7:10 p.m. ET on CBS.
