Duke Crushes Boston College, 88-63

Boston MA- Cooper Flagg scored 28 points 4 assists, 5 rebounds, 2 steals, 2 blocks, and shot 64.3% from the field, after missing four of his first five shots on Saturday night to lead No. 3 Duke to its 12th straight victory, 88-63 over Boston College. 

Tyrese Proctor added 20 points for the Blue Devils (16-2, 8-0 Atlantic Coast Conference). Isaiah Evans racked up 16 points off the bench. Cooper Flagg was playing his first college game in New England since leaving Maine for Tobacco Road. Duke was coming off a 35-point win against Miami, and has now beaten seven of its eight ACC opponents by double digits. 

Chad Venning scored 19 to lead Boston College (9-9, 1-5). Duke has beaten BC in 10 consecutive meetings since the Eagles upset the top-ranked Blue Devils in Conte Forum on Dec. 9, 2017. 

BC led for about 15 minutes, taking an 18-11 lead midway through the first half before the Blue Devils scored 11 of the next 13 points. The Eagles led for the last time at 24-22 before Duke went on a 11-3 run. 

The Eagles biggest lead of the night was seven points. It came with 11:36 remaining in the first half at 18-11. The Blue Devils settled into the contest and battled back from behind to take a 22-20 lead with 8:37 remaining in the half. 

Boston College knotted the game at 22 with a layup by Venning. Then, Duke went on an 18-12 run to end the first 20 minutes. They went into halftime with a 40-34 advantage. 

Coming out of the break, the Blue Devils went on a 6-2 run which included four from star forward Cooper Flagg to take a double-digit lead 46-36.

The Eagles struggled in the second 20 minutes of play. They tallied 29 points and went 32-percent from the floor as well as 3-of-11 from behind the arc. 

The Blue Devils scored a combined 48 points in the second half. 

Takeaways 

Duke: The Blue Devils are the only school in the AP Top 25 from the conference, which had four teams in the final 2024 rankings. 

Boston College: The Eagles have lost four straight ACC games since their victory over Miami back on New Year’s Day. 

Key stats 

Duke notched its 14th double-digit victory of the season and its 11th by at least 20 points. Duke led by as many as 27 with Boston College leading by only 7. Duke scored 38 points in the paint to BC’s 28. Duke outrebounded the Eagles 36-22. Both teams shot 33.3% from deep. Duke shot 80% from the charity stripe to BC just 54%. Duke had 18 assists to the Eagles 7. Both teams turned the ball over 8 times. Duke shot 52.6% from the field to BC’s 44.9%

Duke goes down the road to Winston-Salem to face Wake Forest on Saturday. Boston College travels to Charlottesville to face Virginia on Tuesday.
