College World Series: LSU Defeats Tennessee, Sets Up Rematch With Wake Forest

On a night where both teams knew they were facing elimination, LSU scored early and never had to look back as they eliminated Tennessee from the college world series and set up a rematch tonight against the Wake Forest Demon Deacons.

Pitching was the story in this game for the Tigers, as starting pitcher Nate Ackenhausen threw six solid innings giving up 4 hits and striking out 7. Riley Cooper came on to pitch the final three innings allowing 2 hits sealing the shutout and the victory over the Volunteers 5-0.

LSU (48-15) came out quickly in the top of the first inning when Cade Beloso struck an RBI single to right center scoring Dylan Crews from third giving the Tigers a 1-0 lead.

The score remained that way until the top of the sixth when LSU added on another run when Gavin Dugas laid a bunt down the 3rd base line that third baseman Zane Denton threw away allowing Tre Morgan to score.

After Morgan scored on a wild pitch in the eighth, Crews put the game away in the top of the ninth when he smacked a 2 run homer over the right field wall

After losing to Wake Forest Monday night, LSU will have a chance at redemption as they will face the Demon Deacons again tonight at 7PM and try to stave off elimination. Should they prevail they would have to face Wake Forest a third time on Thursday in a winner takes all match up. Should Wake Forest win one of the next two games vs LSU they will move on to the College World Series Championship finals where as LSU would need to win two in a row vs the Demon Deacons to move on.
