Charlotte FC Lose Their First Home Game of the 24/25 Season

Charlotte FC suffers their first home loss of the 24/25 season to the New England Revolution on Saturday, breaking our 8-game winning streak at the Bank of America Stadium.  It was a tough loss for the Crown, dropping us from 1st to 4th place in the Eastern division.

Despite the low scoring match each team came out physical and prepared to play on the attack.  There were a combined 6 yellow cards throughout the match as both teams were trying to stop counterattacks before they started.  Charlotte had 18 shots on the night with 13 of those being inside the box.  New England only had 7 shots on the night but was able to convert one of their chances.  The match ended 1-0 with ex-premier league player, Carles Gil, being the only scorer on the night.  Gil was superb during the match, controlling the pace and attack for New England through 90 minutes which ultimately led him to be the man of the match.

Zaha had some thoughts for Charlotte FC fans on Snapchat after the match.  After extensive criticism directed at him, Zaha went on to post on Snapchat, “We lost a game and somehow it’s Zaha’s fault, I dribble .. I’m Selfish, I keep it simple .. I’m not doing what I’m being paid to do.  I usually wouldn’t reply to this stupid s*** but I’m not a scapegoat for people to waffle about in at clubs anymore”.

Criticism directed at Zaha is not a new concept in his career.  At Crystal Palace, Galatasaray, and even for his national team Ivory Coast he has been the subject of ridicule by fans and pundits.  Zaha goes on to say in his Snapchat message, “Zaha this Zaha that but we had the best start ever and been 1st in the league so please stop chapping especially my name”.  While fans have expected the former Premier League star to light up the MLS, it would be a lie to say Zaha hasn’t been an integral part of our success so far this season.

Charlotte FC’s next game is versus the Columbus Crew away in Ohio on May 3rd.  The Crown will continue to push for a top spot in the eastern division following our loss at home.  Following our first away win in the 24/25 season to Montréal, Charlotte hopes to find our second away victory on Saturday.
