Canes Corner: The Latest Ahead Of The Trade Deadline

The Carolina Hurricanes are set for an eventful upcoming week as they continue their 2024-25 season campaign.

Recent Performance

The Canes secured a 2-1 victory over the Calgary Flames at Lenovo Center on March 2, 2025. Sebastian Aho was the hero once again, netting the game-winning goal at 3:16 of overtime. This marked Aho’s fifth overtime winner of the season, tying him for the most overtime goals scored in a single season. Defenseman Jaccob Slavin also contributed with two points in the match, recording a goal and an assist. Jackson Blake added two assists.

The previous day, on March 1, the Hurricanes fell short in a 3-1 defeat at home against the Edmonton Oilers. Despite a strong overall performance, the Oilers managed to snap their five-game losing streak.

The Canes will be taking on Detroit this coming Tuesday, the Bruins on Thursday, and the Jets this Sunday—three crucial games as we inch closer to the trade deadline.

Team News

In roster news, Mikko Rantanen trade rumors have been swirling throughout the league. Will “The Moose” still be a Cane when the deadline passes? Teams to keep an eye on if the Hurricanes decide to make a move include Dallas, Los Angeles, and Vegas. While reports suggest the Canes are not currently interested in trading Rantanen, that could change quickly if a team offers a strong enough package.

Additionally, reports indicate that the Hurricanes are in discussions with Taylor Hall regarding a contract extension—signaling that the team views him as a key piece both now and in the future.

As the season progresses, the Hurricanes continue to demonstrate resilience and competitiveness in their game. With the season winding down, every game becomes more important. Stay tuned this week, Caniacs—trade season is heating up!
