Canes Corner: Hurricanes Face Tough Stretch as Trade Deadline Looms

As of February 23rd, the Carolina Hurricanes have been navigating a tough stretch both on and off the ice.

In their most recent matchup, the Hurricanes suffered a 6-3 defeat against the Toronto Maple Leafs last night. The game started unfavorably for Carolina, as they trailed 4-0 by the end of the first period. Despite a late rally, the early deficit proved to be insurmountable. Jaccob Slavin, Shayne Gostisbehere, and Andrei Svechnikov each found the back of the net.

Trade Rumors Surrounding Mikko Rantanen

Off the ice, forward Mikko Rantanen has become a focal point in trade discussions. Reports indicate that multiple teams are expressing interest in acquiring him from Carolina. Currently in the final year of his contract, Rantanen’s future with the Hurricanes remains uncertain as the March 7th trade deadline quickly approaches.

The Hurricanes have made a nine-figure offer to Rantanen over eight seasons. However, he has yet to accept or decline the contract as he continues to process the trade from Colorado. Definitely keep an eye out in the coming weeks for more updates.

Upcoming Games

The Carolina Hurricanes will be back in action on Tuesday, February 25th, as they take on the Canadiens at the Bell Centre in Montreal. Whalers Night will be held on Thursday, February 27th, at Lenovo Center.
