Canes Corner – Canes Extend Win Streak To Five With 4-1 Win Over Tampa

Canes Extend Win Streak to Five with 4-1 Victory Over Tampa

The Carolina Hurricanes extended their win streak to five games with a commanding 4-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning last night. From start to finish, the Hurricanes controlled the pace of the game at even strength, shut down Tampa’s power play, and received key contributions from all four lines. However, despite the team’s strong performance, their power play struggles remain a glaring issue as the season winds down.

Carolina’s dominance at even strength set the tone early, dictating possession and tempo throughout the game. The penalty kill stood tall as usual, completely neutralizing Tampa’s man advantage and even generating offense. Seth Jarvis was the difference-maker in this area, opening the scoring with a short-handed goal assisted by Sebastian Aho, energizing his team and putting the Lightning on their heels. You can watch Jarvis’ short-handed goal here . Additionally, the Canes’ depth was on full display, with contributions from all lines, reinforcing their offensive versatility.

While the Hurricanes excelled in most aspects of their game, the power play continues to be a major concern. Sloppy and slow zone entries, along with a lack of sustained pressure, prevented them from capitalizing on their opportunities with the man advantage. As the postseason approaches, this will need to be addressed if Carolina wants to make a deep playoff run.

Pyotr Kochetkov was rock solid between the pipes, making 23 saves on 24 shots and keeping Tampa’s offense in check. With the trade deadline behind them, the Hurricanes are proving they have what it takes to thrive heading into the playoffs. Their game is starting to fire on all cylinders—except for the power play. If they can find a solution to those struggles, they’ll be a dangerous threat in the Eastern Conference.
