First and foremost I want to send prayers out to the Clifton family as Michael Clifton is battling health problems.
Week two is officially in the books, as it was a wild night full of twins at Bowman Gray. The “old guys” showed the field they still got a lot left in the tank.
Stadium Stock would kick the night off with their first of two events. Justin Owens sat on the pole, but third place Brandon Brendle would jump from third to first in between turns 3 and 4 on the first lap. Brendle would go on to cruise to victory in dominating fashion, holding off A.J. Sanders, Blaine Curry, and Isaac Harris.
Next up would be the in the first 20 lap Sportsman Division race, Nate Gregg would draw the pole and dominate in fashion leading flag to flag, who was just in his second Sportsman race after winning five races in the Law Offices of John Barrow Street Series last year, but unfortunately would be disqualified post race giving the victory to Chase Robertson. Robertson, who won the 40-lap Sportsman race in the season opener last week, would win Saturday, followed by Riley Neal, Zack Ore, Amber Lynn, and Michael Adams.
The first of twin 25’s would be next on the list, the Showstopper Chris Fleming would qualify on the pole, just ahead of last weeks race winner Burt Myers. Fleming led flag to flag first 25-lap race Saturday night, holding off Tim Brown and Burt Myers, Lee Jeffreys finished fourth.
In the second 20-lap Sportsman Series race, Michael Adams took the lead from Sterling Plemmons on lap 5, going on to win Saturday’s race. Adams finished ahead of Justin Taylor, Zack Ore, and Chase Robertson. With this victory Adams has surpassed the win total of his father, David Adams.
“This is for my dad,” Michael Adams said. “I wanted to say this last time, I tied Dad’s win record in the Sportsman in the last race. This one right here puts me ahead of him. I never thought I’d be here. If it weren’t for him and my mom I wouldn’t be here.”
The second Twin 25 would follow as Daniel Beeson would start on the pole after the invert. Beeson who was searching for his first career win at Bowman Gray, and teammate Brandon Ward would tangle. Allowing Jeffreys to take for the lead and go on to win holding off Burt Myers. Making it his 24th of his career just nine shy of tying his father Robert Jeffreys.
In the 20-lap race in the Law Offices of John Barrow Street Stock Bryan Sykes Jr picks up his first street stock win holding off Billy Gregg. Making him and his dad are now the 43rd father son combo to win at the stadium.
Christian Joyce was third, Austin Jones was fourth, and Zack Staley was fifth.
Chuck Wall would beat Brandon Clements in the second Stadium Stock of the night. Wall was behind Clements coming to the final turn until Clements went high coming to final corner as Wall slipped underneath and slid by coming to the finish line. Clements was second, Stephen Sanders was third, and Brandon Crotts was fourth.
After years of racing all over the Southeast, Brandon Clements finally made his first trip to Bowman Gray Stadium in his mini stock.
Be sure to check out next week’s action as the schedule includes Kevin Powell Motorsports 100, which is the first 100 lap Brad’s Golf Cars Modified Series race of the season. Like all 100 lap Modified races this season, there will be a full-field draw for position and a double-file restart with the cone. In addition, all 100 lap Modified races this season will incorporate the Fans’ Challenge, where the fastest four qualifiers will have the option of either drawing with the rest of the field or opting to go to the back of the field. If the drivers accept the Challenge and then finish in the top four, they will win all or parts of $3,000. If nobody wins the money, it will roll over into a pool for the next 100-lap Modified race, scheduled for June 3, where it will double to $6,000.
In addition to next week’s Kevin Powell Motorsports 100, there will be a “Madhouse Scramble” double feature in the McDowell Heating & Air Sportsman Series, a 20-lap race in the Law Offices of John Barrow Street Stock Series, and either one or two 15-lap races in the Q104.1 Stadium Stock Series.
Gates open at 6 pm on Saturday night, and the first race is at 8pm. Adult admission for Saturday is just $12. For children 6-11, it’s only $2 and children under 5 are free.
Starting this year, you are able to get your tickets online to beat the lines at the gates. If you can’t be here to witness all the action, make sure you check out FloRacing for the live streamed action!
