Bowman Gray Racing Recap – Week of June 18th 2022

bowman gray

Week 7 has wrapped up! I hope everyone had a great Father’s Day. This week, Superman overcame his Kryptonite, while several drivers would continue their hot streaks this season.

The night would kick off with Stadium Stock with AJ Sanders holding off Brandon Brendle and Chuck Wall for the win in the 15-lap race. Brendle made a final attempt on the last lap to get underneath Sanders. But Sanders would hold him off to grab his fifth win of the season. Brandon Brendle finished second, Chuck Wall third and Blaine Curry fourth.

Next up, would be the first of two twin 20’s for Sportsman. Zack Ore would hold off Tommy Neal for his first win of the season. Ore took the lead from Michael Adams after slipping past him on turn one of lap 10. Adams finished third, and Zack Clifton was fourth.

Lee Jeffreys had the fastest qualifying lap for the first race. But when the top six drivers redrew for positions. Jonathan Brown would get the luck of draw and draw first, alongside 11-time and defending points champion Tim Brown. Jeffreys would start third. Jonathan Brown took advantage of his good luck and would go on to win the race for his third of the season and 23rd of his career. Tim Brown second, Chris Fleming was third, Burt Myers was fourth, and Jason Myers was fifth.

After the race, Jonathan Brown would have to draw for position in the Madhouse Scramble, which inverts the field at whatever number the winner of the first race draws. Jonathan Brown drew 8, which is the best he could’ve drawn. A feat that only Tim Brown has done, winning both ends of the twin 50-lap Modified races on the same night.

Next, would be the second of the 20-lap Sportsman race, Amber Lynn came back from a wreck in the first race to taking the checkered in the second. By winning, she would pick up her third win of the season, and eighth overall in the Sportsman Series. She also has 11 overall wins, counting her wins in the Law Offices of John Barrow Street Stock Series, tying her with Susan Kimel for the most wins by a woman at Bowman Gray. Amber Lynn held off Justin Taylor who ran second, followed by Zack Ore third and Tommy Neal fourth.

Junior Snow, who won his first Modified race last week, would start on the pole for the second race, along side John Holleman. Brandon Ward was third, As the green flag dropped to start the race, Jonathan Brown, Junior Snow, Chris Fleming and a few others would all collide with each other. Both Jonathan Brown and Chris Fleming would hop out of their wrecked cars and hop into their backup cars. However Jonathan Brown would be told by Bowman Gray officials that he would be giving points for the car he started the race driving and not the backup car. While Superman himself John Holleman would take advantage of the pileup on the first lap and dominated most of the race, to pick up his first win of the season. Brandon Ward second, Junior Snow third, Tim Brown fourth, and Jason Myers fifth.

In the 20-lap race in the Law Offices of John Barrow Street Stock Series, Bryant Robertson won by holding off Billy Gregg for his first win in 12 years. Nate Gregg finished third, and Kevin Gilbert was fourth.

Next week is the last week before the annual Fourth of July break. Next week’s racing will be highlighted by the 100-lap race in the McDowell Heating & Air Sportsman Series.

Twin 25-lap races in the Modified Series, a 20-lap race in the Street Stock Series, and one or two 15-lap races in the Q104.1 Stadium Stock Series. And there will also be the “Fire in the Sky” nighttime pyrotechnic parachute jump.
