Ladies and Gentlemen, finally after having multiple weeks of rain outs fans witnessed action at the Madhouse. Week 6 is officially in the books.
Lee Jeffreys capitalizes on Burt Myers mistake to win the Elite Underground Utility 100, Chuck Wall grabbed his first career Stadium Stock 50 lapper. Sterling Plemmons finally found victory lane as well recently Oak Grove graduate Chase Robertson. Cale Martin would dominate the Street Stock race.
The evening kicked off with Street Stock as Cale Martin and Jordan Atkins started on the front row. Martin would jump out to a big lead until caution came out after contact between Kevin Gilbert and Justin Cumming causing a jam up that would include points leader Christian Joyce.
Cale Martin would once again pull away but had to deal with three more cautions. As the final restart he would then hold off his good buddy Austin Jones on the final lap for the win.
“Austin ran me clean. He’s my best friend,” Martin said. “So, him running second means a lot. I’ve waited for this a long time. It’s all Uncle Donnie’s (Donnie Martin) fault. My beautiful wife drew the pole.”
Brad Lewis finished third, Donnie Martin was fourth, and David Creed was fifth.
Next up would be the first of two Sportsman races, as Kirk Sheets and Amber Lynn would be your front row. As early contact between Amber Lynn and Nate Gregg would bringing out a caution.
Sterling Plemmons would take advantage on a restart to grab the lead and not look back as he had a mirror full of Michael Adams. After contact between Adams and Chase Robertson that sent Robertson around. Plemmons would go on to win the first 20-lap race in the McDowell Heating & Air Sportsman Division. Adams finished runner up.
“I want to thank Michael for running me clean. He ran me hard, but he ran me clean,” Plemmons said. “Today, five years ago, my first son was stillborn, and we lost our first son. This win goes out to him. His name was Gavin. This is my wife. I also want to send this one out to my mom. I lost her about a year and a half ago.”
Zack Ore was third, followed by Nate Gregg fourth , and Riley Neal.
The first Main Event feature of two as the Brad’s Golf Cars Modified Series would be on track next for the Elite Underground Utility 100. Chris Fleming qualified on the pole but after the invert Daniel Propst would start first along side Burt Myers in second. Myers would just out to take the lead until Lee Jeffreys would take advantage of a bad restart by Myers after a caution on lap 30.
Jeffreys would then go on to lead for almost the rest of the race for the win. After dealing with multiple cautions as well a late Double-File Restart Cone, Burt Myers elected to go to the outside of Jeffreys on the restart with 16 laps remaining. Myers made one last attempt with one lap remaining, but he couldn’t get past Jeffreys.
Jeffreys win, however, ties him for 18th place in the Modified Series with Max Berrier and Jonathan Brown with 25 wins.
Burt Myers comes home second, Brandon Ward was third, Daniel Beeson was fourth, and Dan Speeney was fifth.
Time for the second main event feature race as it was the Thunder Road Grill Stadium Stock 50 in the Q104.1 Stadium Stock Series, which is the longest race of the season in that division.
Brandon Brendle and AJ Sanders would start on the first row after the redraw Robert Strmiska would initially qualify on the pole with a record time of 15.275.
Brendle and Sanders would battle back and forth for the lead up until Sanders would pull away. Sanders would lead a handful of laps, Strmiska would take the lead and lead until Chuck Wall got by with 10 to go.
After a caution on lap 43, the field would have a double file restart, Wall maintained his lead over Robert Strmiska. However, A.J. Sanders slid by Strmiska, causing Strmiska to spin out.
Chuck Wall held on for the win. AJ Sanders was runner-up, followed by Brandon Brendle, Isaac Harris, and Stephen Sanders,
It’s Wall’s first win in the prestigious 50-lap race.
The second 20 lap Sportsman race had familiar face in Winner’s Circle as Chase Robertson, who graduated Friday night from Oak Grove High School in Midway, picked up his third win of the season
“It was a pretty cool experience. I graduated,” Robertson said. “We had a rocket ship the second race. The first race, we had a fast car, too, but whatever comes around goes around,” said Robertson about an incident with Michael Adams in the first race.
This week’s racing is highlighted by the Thunder Road Grill Twin 50-lappers in the Brad’s Golf Cars Modified Series. After the first 50-lap race, the winning driver will pull a number out of the hat in the “Madhouse Scramble,” which will invert the field there for the second race.
Also, the Thunder Road Grill Street Stock 50, which has been postponed several times because of rain, is scheduled for next week.
In addition, there will be twin 20-lap races in the McDowell Heating & Air Sportsman Series that will also use the “Madhouse Scramble.” And there will be either one or two 15-lap races in the Q104.1 Stadium Stock Series.
