
PORTLAND, Ore. — Freshman Tyrese Proctor scored a career-high 16 points but No. 24 Purdue claimed a 75-56 win over No. 8 Duke in the championship game of the Phil Knight Legacy at Moda Center in Portland, Ore.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Duke jumped on Purdue early, opening a seven-point lead at 14-7 at the 15:48-mark on a Proctor jumper.
- Purdue chipped away, and Branden Smith’s layup three minutes later gave the Boilermakers the lead at 17-16.
- Purdue opened a lead as many 18 (46-28) before Duke closed the half on a 7-0 run thanks to four points from Proctor.
- Proctor scored 10 of Duke’s 18 over a stretch that spanned both halves as the freshman tried to keep his team in it.
- The Blue Devils trimmed the margin to as few as seven on two occasions in the second half, but could get no closer.
- Purdue’s 7-foot-4 big man Zach Edey finished with a game-high 21 points and 12 rebounds, while Caleb Furst had 11 points and 10 rebounds.
- Fletcher Loyer scored 18 points, including 4-of-8 from three-point range.
- Duke was limited to just 2-of-19 from three-point range and shot .362 (21-for-58) from the field.
- Proctor scored 16 points, while Kyle Filipowski and Jeremy Roach each had 14.
NOTES
- The game was the eighth in the series versus Purdue with the Boilermakers now leading, 5-3. Purdue snapped Duke’s two-game winning streak in the series.
- Duke is now 5-1 when playing in Phil Knight events in Portland after winning the inaugural PK80 in 2017.
- Duke was out-rebounded by Purdue, 42-31 – its first game this season being out-rebounded by an opponent and the first time this season the Blue Devils failed to lead in second-chance points (8-3).
- Purdue’s 75 points were the most scored against Duke this season – previous high was 69 by Kansas.
- Duke is now a combined 93-33 when playing in one of the 12 current NBA arenas, including 5-1 in Portland’s Moda Center. The Blue Devils have won 22 of their last 28 games at NBA arenas.
- Duke has now connected on at least one three-point field goal in 1,161 consecutive games – the nation’s second longest active streak.
- Filipowski scored 14 points with five rebounds. He has scored in double figures in every game this season.
