The countdown is officially down to single digits for the drop of the green flag for the 2023 Bowman Gray Season.
Tim Brown set his sights on lucky number 13 after winning back to back titles the last two years. Burt Myers will look to get back to his winning ways. Brandon Ward, John Holleman IV, Chris Fleming along with others will look to find a way to end the streak of the Brown-Myers championships that dates back to 2014 when Danny Bohn won his title. Can Tommy “The Tiger” Neal who is expected to run this season along with Ross “Boo Boo” Dalton and Bryant Robertson crash the party?
My championship prediction: Last years runner up Brandon Ward. Having a teammate will help him in the long run.
Sleeper pick will go to John Holleman IV. Being a new dad and after having a not so good season last year, JH4 will be hungry this season.
2023 will have a new champion as Tommy Neal moves up to Modifieds after winning the championship the last two years.
Amber Lynn, Justin Taylor, Michael Adams and Zach Ore will have their hands full as the young guns of Riley Neal and Chase Robertson as they look to continue their success. While Brandon Brendle and Nate Gregg look to have a successful rookie season.
My Sportsman Championship prediction: Riley Neal, I feel he’ll have a solid sophomore season.
Sleeper pick: he’s not much of a sleeper, so in other words my second choice Justin Taylor. Justin will look to grab another title after being close last season.
Billy Gregg has won the championship the past three years and doesn’t seem to be slowing down. David Creed, Christian Joyce, Zack Staley and others will look to dethrone the defending champion in 2023. Bryan Sykes Jr and Austin Jones will look to make their cases known as the the future of the Madhouse, they both come from racing families.
My Championship Prediction: Billy Gregg will continue to dominate until someone can conquer him and defeat him.
Sleeper Pick: Zack Staley is just one BADASS guy and he does so much for the kids, track, fans that it’s hard not to pull for the guy. He had speed and was competitive and consistent in multiple races last season. I see him being there at the end.
AJ Sanders looks to repeat after a dominating season in 2022 as he doesn’t have to worry about racing Brandon Brendle but will have Blaine Curry and Wyatt Sapp, two of the up and coming talented drivers, who were are a constant threat to win last year, not to mention Chuck Wall, who is a four time champion in the series and is usually another weekly threat to win. Kyler Staley will look to have a breakout season this year and contend for a championship.
Championship Pick: you’d think the usual AJ Sanders or Chuck Wall. But I will have to go with Blaine Curry.
Sleeper: Wyatt Sapp
Both drivers have had great successful so far in their early careers.
Be here when the green flag drops at the Madhouse on Saturday April 22nd for the Hayes Jewelers 200 presented by Q104.1. First race starts at 8:00. If you can’t be here to witness all the action, make sure you check out FloRacing for the live streamed action!
