KINSTON, N.C. (May 20, 2018) – In game two of Sunday’s doubleheader at Grainger Stadium, the Dash were shut out for just the third time this season, as Winston-Salem fell to the Wood Ducks 7-0.
Wood Ducks starter Christian Torres (4-2) held the Dash offense in check for much of the game, as Winston-Salem (23-19) mustered only four hits in six innings of work for the Down East (25-18) southpaw.

The Dash fell behind early, as Dash starter Drew Hasler (1-0), who made a spot start for game two of the doubleheader, allowed back-to-back singles to lead off the frame. Then, Anderson Tejeda stroked an RBI single to left field to put Down East up 1-0. After Alex Kowalczyk lined out and Chuck Leblanc struck out, Andretty Cordero hit a three-run homer to put the Wood Ducks up 4-0 at the end of the first inning.

The teams traded zeroes for the next two innings, but, in the bottom of the fourth, Down East expanded its lead to 5-0. Brendon Davis led off the inning with an infield single. But Hasler retired the next two batters on a popout and a lineout. However, after Davis stole second, he scored on a single from Eric Jenkins to put the Wood Ducks up 5-0.

Right-hander Blake Hickman replaced Hasler in the bottom of the fifth inning. Hickman retired the first batter he faced but then allowed two solo home runs in the inning from Kowalczyk and Cordero to extend the Wood Ducks’ lead to 7-0.

In the top of the seventh, Torres was replaced by Down East reliever Anthony Gose, who set down the Dash in order to close out the 7-0 Down East victory.

The Dash return to BB&T Ballpark on Monday for a five-game series against the Buies Creek Astros. Dash left-hander Bernardo Flores (3-2, 2.74 ERA) will get the start on Monday against Astros starter Abdiel Saldana (4-0, 2.73 ERA). Pregame coverage begins at 6:45 p.m., and fans can catch all of the action on, and the TuneIn Radio App.
