Buckle up Sports Fans in the Triad. You’re about to receive an alternative to your local programming.
“The Rundown with Desmond Johnson” a sports talk show hosted by local on air personality Desmond Johnson will have its live 1 hour season premiere Monday January 20th. The show was previously on WSJS Sports Hub, where it ran for two years on Saturday mornings from 10am-12 noon. The new relaunch will place The Rundown on more frequently, Mon-Fri from Noon to 1pm.
Johnson left Sports Hub Triad in November of 2019 due to budget cuts within the company eliminating his position of Creative Director/Programming Manager. The Rundown has been on hiatus while Johnson has looked for a proper format to bring it back.
“My team and I looked at the different options today to bring news, info and a great show to the masses. We had offers from local terrestrial radio stations in the Triad….but in the end we realized, all of those stations are trying to find a way to get into people’s pockets. Meaning, being able to listen to content via smartphones, ” Johnson said.
“So in the end, we decided to bypass terrestrial radio entirely and go straight to the digital formats. Its more cost effective for advertisers, we can reach a lot more people and the statistics show that more and more people are listening to sports talk via digital platforms as opposed to regular over the air, terrestrial radio. Were excited for the opportunity to grow the show and reach even more listeners than before,” Johnson continued.

The show will also be available after each broadcast daily for streaming on multiple platforms including Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Stitcher, Anchor, Podbean, Soundcloud and much more.
Johnson said, “We wanted to make the show easily accessible. So many people complain about having to go through multiple clicks or downloading an app for a station they may not listen to normally just to hear the content they want. Or scrolling through multiple frequencies while driving to listen to content. With our relaunch, we are able to go directly to where the masses are, on multiple formats and youre literally a click away from the content you want. Plug up an aux cord or just Bluetooth it to your speakers and you’re there”
The Rundown covers the top news stories of the day in a panel format. Regular panel co hosts John Olszewski and Rod Funderburk return to the show, where they have been appearing for the past year. Future regular panelists include WXII Sports Brandon Blakney and IMG/Learfield College Studio host Ryan Stone. The show will have interviews with top athletes, coaches, beat writers and more from the area as well as the top stories each day for listeners to catch up on what they may have missed. The format covers NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, College Football, College Basketball and much more.
The show will celebrate its 3rd anniversary during the season premiere.
