On-air Personality and Producer Desmond Johnson has been named the new Creative Director for WSJS / The Sports Hub, the station announced Wednesday.
Johnson has been with Curtis Media Group since 2015 in a number of roles. Currently, he is the producer of “The Drive with Josh Graham” Mon-Fri afternoons 3-6pm. He also hosts “The Rundown with Desmond Johnson” Saturday mornings 10-12pm on The Sports Hub. Johnson will continue in both roles in the new position.
“Desmond’s passion for North Carolina sports is undeniable. He’s one of the rare multi-tool players that jumps in and makes things happen. I’m really excited to have Desmond in this expanded role”, said Al Bunch, General Manager of The Sports Hub.
Johnson will assume Programming and Promotions duties, and will assist in creating new local programming, including producing sporting events including North Carolina A&T Athletics, Appalachian State Athletics, High School Football, NFL, NASCAR and more.
“Having lived in the Triad my entire life, I grew up listening to WSJS. Now that we have a fully committed 24-7 sports radio outlet serving the entire Triad, I believe we have a distinct opportunity to do something special here. My job will be to help steer the ship and push The Sports Hub to be the central piece of Sports Radio in the Piedmont Triad for years to come. I’m super excited for the opportunity and look forward to the next phase of The Sports Hub”, Johnson said.
Johnson previously served as the Digital Sales Manager for the Winston Salem Journal from 2013-15. He also has taught Social Media and Digital Marketing classes at Forsyth Technical Community college from 2014 to present, also serving as their Campus Radio Director of 105.1 FM (WFOZ-FM) in 2017. Johnson has previously worked for Entercom Communications and Dick Broadcasting. Last year, Johnson served as On-Air Studio Host for Charlotte 49ers Football and Basketball broadcasts.
