First Report: UNC Surges Past UCLA in Vegas (via InsideCarolina.com)

The Tar Heels improved to 6-1 on the season.

 

LAS VEGAS – No. 7 North Carolina pulled away from No. 17 UCLA with a 16-2 run midway through the second half to secure a 94-78 victory in the Las Vegas Invitational on Friday.

The Bruins made their first seven baskets and led 32-21 midway through the first half. Cam Johnson’s three-pointer just before the halftime buzzer sparked a 19-8 run to give UNC a 57-54 lead with 15:34 to play.

The Tar Heels played one of their best halves of the season in the second half, shooting 53.3 percent with one turnover while holding UCLA to 37.5 percent from the floor.

UNC shot 48.4 percent for the game, including a 47.8 percent effort from the three-point line (11-of-23), and held the Bruins to 44.1 percent shooting.

Five Tar Heels scored in double figures, led by Coby White’s 19 points. Luke Maye added 16 points and Kenny Williams tossed in 15 points, while Johnson and Nas Little each scored 14 points.
