First Report: Michigan Dismantles UNC, 84-67 (via InsideCarolina.com)

UNC falls to 6-2 on the season.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – No. 7 Michigan turned a 10-point deficit into an 84-67 blowout victory over No. 11 North Carolina on Wednesday, handing the Tar Heels their second loss in three games.

UNC (6-2) looked good briefly until it looked anything but, pairing an inefficient offensive performance with yet another porous defensive effort in dropping to 10-10 all-time in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge.

The Wolverines blew the game open with a 24-6 run early in the second half by knocking down 9-of-14 field goal attempts while the Tar Heels missed 11 of their 12 attempts during the stretch. UNC cut into its deficit with a 10-0 run with roughly six minutes to play, but Michigan answered with seven quick points to stall the rally.

Michigan shot 57.4 percent from the floor and 50 percent from the three-point line, while also scoring 18 points off 10 UNC turnovers. The Tar Heels shot 39.4 percent for the game, including a 32.4 percent mark in the second half. Michigan forward Ignas Brazdeikis led all scorers with 24 points on 9-of-13 shooting and wing Charles Matthews added 21 points. Coby White paced the Tar Heels with 12 points on 6-of-12 shooting. Luke Maye posted a double-double with 11 points and 15 rebounds.

UNC outrebounded Michigan, 43-31, yet was outscored, 38-26, in the paint.

Defense Fails UNC Again
Whether it was backdoor cuts, pick-and-rolls or dribble penetration for kick-outs to the perimeter, Michigan managed to create numerous open looks with quality spacing and passing.
