ASHLAND, Va. – Lamont Moore scored 14 of his game-high 19 points in the second half of Randolph-Macon College’s 71-68 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) basketball win over visiting Guilford College Saturday afternoon in Crenshaw Gymnasium.

Trevor Mayo’s free throw with 19:09 left in regulation opened Guilford’s largest lead of the game (38-33), before the Yellow Jackets (5-6, 1-1 ODAC) answered with a decisive 15-4 run. Moore netted seven points and Mike Silverthorn dropped in one of his four three-pointers during the spurt, which gave the hosts a 48-42 edge with 13:43 remaining.

Guilford’s Zachary Houston hit a three-pointer seven minutes later that tied the tightly contested game for the eighth and final time at 55-55. Grayson Midulla’s layup, followed by Silverthorn’s fourth three-pointer of the game, restored a five-point edge the Quakers (6-5, 1-1 ODAC) could not overcome in the final 5:26. Trever Hyatt’s three-pointer at the buzzer would have forced overtime, but missed the mark.

Moore added a team-high eight rebounds to his 19 points and also dished out four assists. Silverthorn finished with 14 off the bench, eight in the second half, and Michael Taylor contributed 12 points and seven rebounds. Midulla added 11 points.

Hyatt shot three-of-five from three-point range and paced four Quakers in double-figure scoring with 14 points. Teammate Will Freeman added 13 points and Mayo finished with 12, plus five assists. Guilford’s Carson Long added 10 points. Rookie Alston Thompson grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds and Freeman added nine as the Quakers enjoyed a 38-32 edge in rebounds.

Coach Tom Palombo’s Quakers visit Randolph College Wednesday (1/6) for a 7:00 p.m. ODAC game.
