Bowman Gray Q&A – Wyatt Sapp

Ladies and Gentlemen welcome to another Q&A, I had the opportunity to interview Stadium Stock driver and 2021 rookie of the year Wyatt Sapp. In just 20 starts, Wyatt has racked up an impressive 17 top 10s and 9 top 5s. He’s still in hunt of that luxurious first win. But with stats like those, he will have a win soon.

Q: What was it that got you interested in racing?

A: What got me into racing was being at BGS all the time when I was little and just falling in love with it, then got the chance to start helping AJ Sanders and had the opportunity to get into a car and its took off ever since.

Q: Some drivers have a story behind the number they run, Is there a story behind the 46?

A: The reason I run 46 is that my dad ran it when he raced at BGS in 99’ and 00’, so ever since I got my first go kart I’ve always ran that number.

Q: You mentioned that your dad use to race, have you ever gone out to see whose the fastest and better driver?

A: I’ve tried to get my dad to go out in my car for some practices but he just enjoys watching me run. Maybe one day I’ll talk him into it

Q: You recently were apart of a fundraiser to help raise money for a little girl who is battling leukemia. You guys were able to raise over $3,000. I know we talked about it a little about it. But how much does it mean to you to be able to help this sweet little girl?

A: To be able help means more then anyone could know, I’m just proud of the entire racing community for being apart of this and I hope we can continue to help this little girl down the road.

Q: Seeing the success of former stadium stock drivers (Junior Snow and Wesley Thompson) this season, Do you see yourself possibly moving up to another division? If so which division?

A: At the moment I’m having tons of fun in the Stadium Stocks, I wouldn’t be against moving up to possibly Street Stocks if the funds were there. I was still having fun but right now I’m enjoying the Stadium Stock.

Q: You’re currently 4th in points, just 70 points behind AJ Sanders. What’s your mindset with just 5 weeks left in the season? Do you plan to throw a Hail Mary and hope for the best during next 5 weeks?

A: My plan for these next 5 weeks is to just keep trying for that first win and let things happen as they do I’d love to have a shot but right now I just wanna pick up that first win.

Q: What’s your secret to being able to conquer 17 top 10s in just your 20 starts? That’s quite an accomplishment in just your second season.

A: Ain’t much of a secret just main thing is finishing races, if you can run decent as long as your able to miss wrecks and finish races you can most the time manage a top 10. That’s a actually a cool stat and I just looked and I’m pretty sure me, Crotts, AJ, and Brendle are the only ones to finish in the top 10 each race this year so that’s also pretty cool.

Q: Who would you say you enjoy racing against and along side of? And who would you says the toughest competitor?

A: I have a couple people I love to race with, but at the top is definitely Blaine Curry and Stephen Sanders, we don’t give each an inch and race each other hard but clean definitely my favorites to race with. The toughest would be the top 3 over AJ, Brandon, and Chuck. Those guys have tons of laps over there and if I can even run near them I’m happy.

Q: Is there a certain driver or drivers (any division) that you lean on for advice? And what’s the best advice they’ve given you?

A: I get advice from a lot of people over there but being with AJ for so long he’s given me a lot of advice, the best advice I’ve got is to give respect the same way you want to receive it.

Q: In your opinion, what is it that Stadium stock is doing different than the other divisions that is actually making the series more interesting to watch?

A: I just think with the cars being the size they are we’re able to go to the outside more and make it work and I feel through out the field most people have respect for each so you get hard but clean racing

Q: I heard this question asked the other day. From Chris Carter that stuck out to me, about “there being a certain amount of respect lost at the stadium” Would you agree that it has with all that has gone on lately has caused the Stadium to lose some respect?

A: Well the stadium is always about entertainment so I feel it’s definitely entertaining but there are moments that when people that don’t go there regularly, and don’t understand the entertainment aspect, they view it differently as someone that’s been going there their whole life.

Q: Last question, it’s something I like to ask drivers. “If you could race against any legendary driver (BGS or NASCAR) who would it be?”

A: I’m not to sure honestly I just love being out there it would be awesome to race against a NASCAR or BGS legend.

Wyatt wants to thank his sponsors “Chandler home improvements and hauling, Chad has been with me since day one and I can’t thank him enough, Concrete Maintenance and Solutions they came on this year and have been a huge help, Gevara Roofing they’ve helped me a bunch these past 2 years. Sanders Speed Shop I couldn’t ask for better help than Stephen he’s also someone that’ll do whatever it takes to help you and I really appreciate him.”

I want to thank Wyatt for taking time to do this interview and also want to congratulate him one more time and the rest of the Bowman Gray family for raising over $3,000 for the #EmmaStrong #EmmaArmy charity. Make sure you come check out the Fox8 100, as it’ll be the 100 lapper for Modifieds, plus racing in other divisions.
